The 2020 playoffs are here, and we continue with our DraftKings Showdown coverage with Los Angeles @Green Bay. The 10-6 Los Angeles Rams’ defense will be tested as they travel to Lambeau Field to face the 13-3 Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers has been playing lights and makes strong case for the MVP award. There hasn’t been a defense that has been able to slowdown the Packers (averaging over 31 points a game). At the moment, Vegas has the O/U set to 46 and Green Bay winning by 7 points.
DraftKings Showdown: Los Angeles @Green Bay Captain Picks:
Aaron Rodgers($16,800 Capt/ $11,200 Flex)
Aaron Rodgers finished the season with 48 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He also finished with the best passer rating at 119.4. This could be due to his superior offensive line that has allowed the second lowest pressure rate in the league. Or it could be the rare chemistry he has with Davante Adams. Whatever it is, Rodgers is worth every penny. Over the last four games he averaged 3.5 touchdowns and will look to continue his scoring streak against the Rams. Rodgers is a bit cheaper than Adams and going with him in the captain spot frees up some cap space for the flex position.
Davante Adams ($17,400 Capt/ $11,600 Flex)
Rodgers isn’t the only Packer that in the MVP hunt. Davante Adams name has been tossed around in the MVP race. Having a fantastic season, as he leads the league in receiving yards gained per route. He averages over 10.7 targets per game and has built an unbelievable connection with Rodgers. If Rodgers is your lineup then Adams is a must-have as the correlation between the two of them is the highest on the slate. Adams finished the season with 1,374 yards and 18 touchdowns (responsible for about 38% of Rodgers touchdowns).
The offense is centered around establishing the run game and funneling the ball to Adams. This makes him a perfect candidate for the captain position. Although Adams has made the most of his opportunities, he will likely be guarded by Jalen Ramsey for the majority of the game. Rodgers may be forced to throw the ball elsewhere hindering Adams chance to hit value for his price tag. As a result, I will have more Rodger captain lineups than Adams.
Rams Defense ($6,600 Capt/ $4,400 Flex)
Sean McVay is a very cerebral coach and isn’t afraid to adjust his defensive personal around the field to harass his opponent. I can see him and Brandon Stanley, the defensive coordinator, devising a plan to use Aaron Donald to disrupt the Packers offensive line and Jalen Ramsey to lockdown Adams. The Packers rarely turn the ball over and the Rams defense is in the middle of the pack in takeaways. On paper, the Rams D is not necessarily a good play but if McVay and Stanley can implement some new blitz disguises, Rodgers and the rest of the offense could be in trouble. Putting the Rams D in the captain spot not only saves salary but also allows you to differentiate your lineup from the field.
DraftKings Showdown: Los Angeles @Green Bay Flex:
Aaron Jones ($10,400 Flex)
Locking in the cheap tight ends and fading Jared Goff opens the way to fit Aaron Jones in a lineup with Rodgers and Adams. Jones is fourth in the league yards after catch and I expect him to carry the ball a lot to keep the defensive pressure off Rodgers. The Rams haven’t defended the run game well as of late. They have allowed over 100 yards rushing in each of their past 4 games, roughly 10 more yard per game than their season average. Ultimately Jones provides leverage against the Packers passing game. and will be needed throughout the game no matter the game script.
Cooper Kupp ($8,000 Flex)
Cooper Kupp is $600 less than Robert Woods and is listed as questionable. That should impact his ownership, making it lower. If he ends up playing and the Packers go up early in the game, then he will be relied on to move the ball through the air. Robert Woods will be guarded by Jaire Alexander, one of the best in the game. I see the Rams using Woods as a decoy to prevent Goff from throwing in Alexander’s direction. Kupp leads the team in target share and is responsible for the 20% of the Rams offensive production. If you think this will be a high-scoring game then lock in Kupp as he has an easier corner matchup.
Robert Tonyan ($6,400 Flex)
Tonyan has averaged a red zone target over the past four weeks. He’s been very productive and is second on the team in touchdown catches. If the Rams can lock down Adams, Tonyan will be Rodgers next best option. We shouldn’t expect him to rack up a ton of receiving yards but his touchdown potential is through the roof. He is currently tied with Travis Kelce for having the most receiving touchdowns by a tight end.
Tyler Higbee ($4,800 Flex)
Late in the season the Packers have emphasized stopping run and its paying off. The Packers have given the fifth least amount of fantasy points to opposing running backs. The Rams rely on the run game to fuel their offense. If the Packers can blow up the Rams run protection look for Higbee to get more targets. Recently the Packers have given up a ton of fantasy points to tight ends which could be a result of them stacking the box to stop the run. Higbee is reasonably priced for his ceiling and plan to use him in almost all of my lineups.
Josh Reynolds ($1,800 Flex)
Josh Reynolds is very cheap and has a prominent role in the Rams offense. He averages five targets a game and that could increase due to a stout Packers run defense and Jaire covering Robert Woods. Reynolds is right behind Higbee for the most targets on the team of 20 plus yards or more. If the Packers gain a huge lead and the Rams have to air it out, Reynolds could see a few deep balls thrown his way.
