Starting a series of 2022 IDP Tiered Rankings, with Linebackers. The following is a three-part installment discussing and ranking Individual Defensive Players (IDP/IDPs). The positions are in accordance with Sleepers view of the position, which include dual designation.
Why play IDP and Linebackers (LB)
Linebackers are to IDP what top tier running backs AND wide receivers are to the offensive side of the ball. Linebackers are some of our favorite players of all time; 2022 Hall of Fame member Sam Mills, Mike Singletary, Dave Robinson, Kevin Greene, Ray Lewis, Derrick Brooks, Derrick Thomas, and Lawrence Taylor just to name a few.
Some of today’s legends will be enshrined in football heaven at career’s end, make sure they are on your team. You want to have some of the elite LBs to cover bad performances from everyone else on your starting roster. Top tier LBs are more reliable than consistent QBs, less injury prone than stud RBs, and more match up proof than any WR 1. They can carry you to the reservation we all want, the table for 1, league champion.
If you end the season with 2 of the top 5 LBs (far more obtainable than any other position) you will have the best IDP team. That’s how important LBs are. The points favor them in most scoring formats. They are fun to draft early and even more fun to scoop in the waiver wire. It is an abundant position. Narrowing the list to only 55, in contrast to other IDP positions, is difficult.
Remember to KNOW YOUR LEAGUE’S SCORING FORMAT! This above all else is important. The rankings below updated Aug 20, 2022) are based off the Sleeper designated positions, meaning some players have dual designation. LBs are the consistent, hard working, plug and play, high floor, lovable players we all relate to, and cheer for.
