In dynasty, regardless if you are in rebuild or contending, finding some quick return assets for the 2022 season is always appealing- here we look at QB options.
Jameis Winston (NO)
Jameis is a quarterback that is not appreciated enough. Are we forgetting the fact he showed us during his time in Tampa that he can throw the ball and he led the league in 2019 with the most passing yards. If Winston can channel his big time plays he made in Tampa with his vastly improved decision making he demonstrated last year then he could be a low end QB1 this year.
Staggeringly, Winston was the overall QB 14 in points per game last season which isn’t bad for a guy who missed half of the season and his main wide receiver target is now fourth on the Saints depth chart. This eludes me to my next point as he now has Michael Thomas returning, one of the best route runners from the 2022 draft class Chris Olave and the recently acquired Jarvis Landry to target. Also, should Alvin Kamara avoid any punishment in his August hearing then this will provide Winston with one of the best receiving backs in the NFL. Even with Terron Armstead leaving for the Miami Dolphins, the Saints still have a good offensive line to fall back on for the run game.
Trey Lance (SF)
Yes I know that you will have to pay a hefty sum for Trey Lance but I guarantee that it will look like a cheap price to pay this time next year. Capitalize on those owners who are worried that Jimmy Garoppolo is still in the running to start. Disclosure: Jimmy G is not going to be the 49ers starting quarterback.
I mean let’s be real for a minute. We all know that dual threat quarterbacks are the jewel in the crown for fantasy. It’s highly unlikely that you will acquire an elite rushing quarterback such as Kyler Murray or Lamar Jackson but Trey Lance has the potential to be in the same conversation as the elite options 5 months down the line.
This is your last chance to get a discounted rate on Trey Lance. He is an electric runner who has the potential to be as good of a runner with the ball as Lamar Jackson. Lance has the legs of a top 5 runner straight away and could easily become the overall dynasty QB5 moving forwards. He will be less risky to draft than someone like Jalen Hurts and you can pick him up at a much cheaper price.
Trey Lance has some of the best targets in the NFL with the likes of Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk at his disposal. Even if Lance has an underwhelming start to the campaign and gets benched, it won’t be long term as Jimmy won’t be with the 49ers this time next year.
Zach Wilson (NYJ)
I’ll be upfront here. If Zach Wilson fails this year then he’ll never succeed. The Jets have added weapons everywhere to make Wilson fantasy relevant and they have even added elite running back in Breece Hall to partner Michael Carter in the backfield.
Wilson is a roll of the dice as he’s one of those players who is not regarded as the ‘sexy pick’ and will be sat on a lot of existing rosters as a third choice QB. Throw the teams that own him as their backup QB an offer for a future pick, ideally a 2022 draft pick. If you are after a QB, in this year’s rookie class it’ll be either Kenny Pickett or Desmond Ridder and I would take Zach Wilson over both of these right now, one thousand percent!
This is a risk as you could end up with a Joe Burrow type player on your hands or a Sam Darnold – but I’d say it’s well worth the risk. Either way it’s highly likely that Zach Wilson will be a more valuable asset this time next year in comparison to what he is worth now.
That’s it for our 2022 Quick Return Dynasty Assets QB edition. Don’t forget, you can get prepared for your fantasy drafts with our Fantasy Draft Kit. Or you can find us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
