Welcome to Week 10 of the 2023 season, and our Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em series. This is where all the hard work is done as we prepare for another week of hard-hitting action and paper championships.
As always, if you are struggling with a decision you can checkout our rankings for each Week. Or, if you want a more personal touch, reach out on social media. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Or jump into our Discord server. All stats refer to 1/2 PPR, 6 point per passing touchdown leagues. The number in brackets next to an opponent is that teams rank against the position. Rank 1 is the best possible matchup, Rank 32 is the worst. Follow me on Twitter @FFMadScientist
Start’Em
Geno Smith, Seahawks v WSH (1)
Smith has been one of the larger disappointments at the quarterback position this year, so starting him this week is no easy feat. This week he faces a Commanders defense that is the easiest matchup for opposing quarterbacks, allowing 20.8 fantasy points per game. Geno should be able to sneak his way into the QB1 ranks this week.
Will Levis, Titans v TB (2)
Levis is two games into his NFL career and has one monster boom and one monster bust to his credit. In Week 10 he faces a Buccaneers defense that is categorized as a pass-funnel, allowing 20.8 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Tampa Bay is the second best matchup for quarterbacks and should allow Levis another boom performance.
Jared Goff, Lions v LAC (4)
Goff and the Lions are fresh off a bye week and will get the 4th easiest matchup for quarterbacks after an extra week of preparation. The Chargers are allowing 20.0 fantasy points per game and will allow Goff to once again finish among the top-10 quarterbacks.
Sit ‘Em
Deshaun Watson, Browns v BAL (32)
Watson has not looked good in his first full year as a Brown. Between injuries and bad play he finds himself as QB30 on the year. This week he gets the worst matchup in the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens are allowing 11.3 points per game to the quarterback position and will make Watson a difficult start this week. Sit him if you can, if not you should lower your expectations.
Kenny Pickett, Steelers v GB (29)
Pickett is another quarterback who falls in the disappointing category. He hasn’t progressed in his sophomore season as most hoped he would. This weeks things go from bad to worse as he faces the 3rd worst matchup for quarterbacks, the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay is allowing 13.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks and their stifling pass defense is likely to lead multiple turnovers.
Jimmy Garoppolo, Raiders v NYJ (27)
Garoppolo is bad. The Raiders offence is bad. The Week 10 matchup with the Jets is bad. The Jets are allowing 14.1 fantasy points to quarterbacks and are unlikely to give Jimmy G any opportunities to produce.
Start ‘Em
James Cook, Bills v DEN (2)
Cook has been the most underrated top-20 running back of the season. He seems to produce consistently but since he doesn’t win anyone the week it goes unnoticed. This week he gets a matchup with the Broncos who are the 2nd best matchup for running backs. Denver allows 27.0 fantasy points per game to the position and should allow Cook to once again hit the RB1 range.
Bijan Robinson, Falcons v ARI (3)
Bijan has been a victim of Arthur Smith and continues to struggle to get the touches he deserves. This week he will square off against the Cardinals who are the 3rd best matchup for running backs and are allowing 24.5 points per game to the position. Could this finally be the week we see Bijan unleashed?
Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots v IND (5)
Stevenson has been very underwhelming compared to his draft cost. His production has been a result of a terrible Patriot’s offence. This week however, he faces off against the Colts who are currently the 5th best matchup for running backs, allowing 232. fantasy points per game to the position. This is a prime spot for Stevenson to find his way back into the RB1 conversation.
Sit ‘Em
Gus Edwards, Ravens v CLE (27)
Edwards has been boom and bust all season while alternating with Justice Hill and now Keaton Mitchell. Not only is this backfield a situation to avoid, but so is the matchup. The Browns are the 5th worst matchup for running backs and allow only 14.2 fantasy points per game to the position. Steer clear of this mess.
Alexander Mattison, Vikings v NO (26)
Mattison been inefficient and has only finished in the top-15 on occasion as a result of massive volume. That volume figures to be there for him in Week 10, but in a matchup with the New Orleans Saints, he may be so inefficient the volume won’t matter. The Saints are the 6th worst matchup for running backs and are allowing 14.5 fantasy points per game. As I normally do, I am avoiding Mattison again this week.
Emari Demarcado, Cardinals, v ATL (25)
James Conner may return this week and he mat not. Either way, I’m done with Emari Demarcado, and Keaontay Ingram for that matter. The Falcons are the 7th worst matchup for opposing running backs and the 14.7 fantasy points per game they are allowing to running backs is not enough to produce a relevant running back this week for fantasy.
Start ’em
DeAndre Hopkins, Titans v TB (2)
Hopkins is going to need Will Levis to be the quarterback he was two games ago in order to exploit this week Buccaneers pass defense. The Buccaneers are allowing 35.7 fantasy points to receivers and are the 2nd best matchup for the position. This one is not without risk as it relies on Will Levis bouncing back, but the ceiling is immense.
Romeo Doubs, Packers v PIT (4)
Doubs has emerged as the preferred target for Jordan love and has begun to produce at a consistent level. This week he faces the Steelers who are the 4th best matchup for receivers and are allowing 32.2 fantasy points per game to the position.
Michael Pittman, Colts v NE (5)
Pittman has been a surprise this season and has produced reliably all year long. This week he faces a Patriots defense that is the 5th best matchup for receivers and allows 30.8 fantasy points per game to the position. Fire up Pittman once again.
Sit ’em
Zay Flowers, Ravens v CLE (31)
Flowers has secured the role as the WR1 in Baltimore but this week I’m avoiding him based on a brutal matchup. The Cleveland Browns are the 2nd worst matchup for receivers and are allowing 21.1 fantasy points to the position. Flowers can be played this week, but he’s risky to say the least.
Wan’Dale Robinson, Giants v DAL (29)
Robinson has been the most targeted in a messy wide receiver room for the Giants. Not only will the Giants be without Daniel Jones and Darren Waller, but they will be facing the 3rd worst matchup for receivers. The Cowboys are allowing only 22.9 fantasy points to the position and this situation is a must-avoid regardless of which Giants receiver you roster.
Amari Cooper, Browns v BAL (28)
Cooper has been his consistent but not incredible self, producing at his usual top-25 pace. This week he faces the Ravens who are the 4th worst matchup for receivers and are allowing only 23.3 fantasy points per game to the position.
Start ‘Em
Dalton Schultz, Texans v CIN (2)
Schultz finds himself as a volume based low-end TE1 and as long as CJ Stroud continues to perform at an elite level, he should be penciled in as such. This week he faces the Bengals who are the 2nd best matchup for tight ends and are allowing 12.6 fantasy points per game to the position. Fire him up again and ride the lightning with a hot offence.
Dalton Kincaid, Bills v DEN (6)
Kincaid has used the injury to Dawson Knox as his chance to announce his arrival to the NFL. This week he will face a Broncos defense that is the 6th best matchup for receivers and allows 11.1 fantasy points per game to the position. Start Kincaid again and hope his play continues to improve.
Taysom Hill, Saints v MIN (12)
This one is terrifying. Every time I start Hill, he puts up a dud, but I’m going to go back to him one final time. Hill has been functioning as a legit tight end and has managed passing, rushing and receiving touchdowns this season. This week he faces the Vikings who are the 12th best matchup for tight ends as they allow 10.4 fantasy points per game to the position. Time to start him and pray he doesn’t burn me again.
Sit ’em
David Njoku, Browns v BAL (30)
Njoku and the Browns have been inconsistent and underachieving for most of the season. This week he faces the Ravens who are the 3rd worst matchup for tight ends, allowing 6.2 fantasy points per game to the position. Let’s avoid Njoku in this tough divisional fight.
Luke Musgrave, Packers v PIT (29)
Musgrave has been on my break out list for much of the season but injuries have slowed that significantly. This week he goes up against the Steelers who are the 3rd worst matchup for tight ends and are allowing 6.4 fantasy points per game to the position. Let’s avoid Musgrave this week.
Cade Otton, Buccaneers v TEN (28)
Otton had a massive breakout in Week 9 and was a darling on the waiver wire this week. In Week 10 he faces a Titans team that is the 4th worst matchup for tight ends. The Titans are allowing 6.5 fantasy points per game to tight ends and should be avoided.
