It’s finally here- Week 16 of the 2023 season, and another DraftKings main slate. We are back offering you DFS advice to try and help you navigate your way to victories throughout the season. The players selected here are based on their price, their ability to hit value and likely ownership. The selections are leaning more towards GPP slates, rather than cash (50/50) slates. But let’s get into it
Justin Fields v AZ ($7,100)
It was hard sledding for Chicago’s “is he/isn’t he” franchise quarterback last weekend, with Fields delivering his worst fantasy performance since his return from injury in week 11. The overtime defeat in Cleveland saw the former Buckeye post a season low 47.5% completion rate, successfully connecting with his receivers on only 19 of 40 attempts. Two interceptions, two fumbles and only 30 yards on the ground saw Fields put up his worst full-game fantasy performance of the season…but this weekend he gets to face the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are the perfect remedy for any struggling QB giving up an average of 21 fantasy points per game to oppositions signal callers, and are fresh off being dismantled by Brock Purdy for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns. Arizona also ranks dead last against the run, so expect Fields to get plenty of use out of those legs at Soldier Field on Sunday evening. I wrote in my Bargain Bin column this week about my love for the Chicago backfield, but it may just be their quarterback that leads the way in the run game this weekend. Look for Fields to bounce back in a big way after last week’s disappointment.
Baker Mayfield v JAX ($6,000)
Speaking of QBs who threw for 4 touchdowns last week…let’s talk about my favourite quarterback on the slate; Mr Baker Mayfield. Five years after being selected by Cleveland with the first pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, it finally feels like Baker has found his home in Central Florida. Mayfield is not an elite QB by any stretch of the imagination, but what he brings to this Bucs team just works. Tampa Bay’s 34-20 victory over Green Bay at Lambeau was their 3rd win in a row, putting the Bucs top of the NFC after New Orleans and Atlanta both suffered defeats. This is a team that is finding its rhythm, and after 4 consecutive games with a turnover, Mayfield has now gone back-to-back weeks without throwing a pick or fumbling…scoring 7 touchdowns in the process. The Jaguars are allowing opposition QBs to pass on them for an average of 271 yards per game, 2nd worst in the entire league. With Mayfield finally starting to connect with Chris Godwin in recent weeks, all whilst having Mike Evans and Raschaad White at his disposal, I’m expecting him to have another multi-touchdown week and top 10 fantasy performance at the position.
