Welcome to Week 3 of the 2023 season IDP Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em series.
For those new to the article, know that Play or Pine will cover IDPs that might seem like an obvious start. The reason being IDP leagues vary so much; one time use for the season, 2 IDP starters in 10 team leagues, 11 starters in 14 team leagues, and roster requirements of various sorts through out the world. So if one seems obvious it could be because the projections indicate this could be their best week of the season. So without further ado, here are the Play and Pines of week 2
As always, if you are struggling with a decision you can checkout our rankings for each Week. Or, if you want a more personal touch, reach out on social media. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Or jump into our Discord server.
Results From Last Week
Week 2 Starts
- DL Will Anderson (HOU) – 5.75pts, 3 Total tackles
- DL Cameron Jordan (NO)5.75 pts, 4 Total tackles
- LB Kwon Alexander (PIT) 14.75 pts, 9 Total tackles
- LB Kyzir White (ARI) 17.00 pts, 7 Total tackles, 1 Sack
- DB Jessie Bates (ATL) 4.50 pts, 3 Total tackles
- DB Nate Hobbs (LV) 11.25 pts, 7 total tackles, 1 pass defended
Week 2 Sits
- DL Dorance Armstrong (DAL) 2.25 pts, 2 Total tackles
- LB Zaven Collins (ARI) 7.75 pts, 3 Total tackles, 0.5 Sack
- DB Reed Blankenship (PHI) DNP
The Plays of week 2 were half double-digit players and half mid-point players. That would be a respectable IDP lineup, but 4.5 points is the minimum and expectations were higher for Bates.
The Pines performed as expected with major drops to Armstrong and Collins, and Blankenship did not play on Thursday, as predicted. Overall a grade of B.
Start ‘Em
DeMarcus Lawrence (DAL) @ARI
Lawrence is available in most leagues, and should have an impressive game against the unimpressive Arizona Cardinals. He already has a sack this season, and with a strong positive game script will likely earn another. He could also see more rushing attempts as the Cardinals are utilizing RB James Conner, and could run more plays to the opposite side of Micah Parsons. Grab him and play him with confidence as he could have his highest-scoring game of the season.
Bradley Chubb (MIA) v DEN
After last week’s performance, Chubb could be on a team that is not sure if they should start him, or he could be on the waiver wire. He is currently DL 19 in FF7s and will be bringing the heat against his former team, the Denver Broncos. The Broncos look awfully similar to their team last year, which led to Russell Wilson’s worst statistical performance. Along with B. Chubb Miami Dolphin Defensive Coordinator, Vic Fangio squares off against his old team. Chubb should feast on the bad offensive line of the Broncos and get at least one sack. Play him.
Sit ‘Em
Shaquil Barrett (TB) v PHI
Barrett is off to a start similar to his 2019 season, which still stand as his best marks in tackles, sacks, forced fumbles, and tied for best in interceptions. He had an interception last week, that led to a touchdown, and became a hot waiver-wire addition. He will not be as fortunate to get tackles, sacks, or an interception against the mobile and highly aware Jalen Hurts. Pine him.
Start ‘Em
Terrel Bernard (BUF) @WAS
Bernard is off to a great start in replacing Tre’Maine Edmunds. He has 14 or more points in each game and a combination of 18 tackles in two games. He is available in several leagues and is relatively unknown outside of the IDP fanatics and Buffalo Bills fans. He plays against the run-heavy Washington Commanders this week and could get double-digit tackles. Go get him and replace your IDP flex with a solid floor LB that has not come close to his ceiling this season.
Kamu Gruiger-Hill (CAR) @SEA
Gruiger-Hill will see a much larger snap count going forward. If you are a Shaq Thompson owner try to get him, or if you are in a deeper league and need a replacement. K. Gruiger-Hill will be targeted often in the pass game, and has a track record of high tackle games. He went for 40% FAAB budget in the Butkus Division of the King’s Classic, so spend up for him. He will have large spike games due to a bad offense, and has a relatively high floor. Play him in almost all weeks going forward.
Sit ‘Em
Jerome Baker (MIA) v DEN
Baker has played 155 snaps so far this season and is not capable of putting up any statistics other than a tackle. He only has 13 tackles, 6 of which are assist. J. Baker is a low floor candidate and can be replaced with better players for week 3.
Start ‘Em
Marcus Maye (NO) @GB
Maye is having a stellar year. Despite that, he is available in several leagues. He has 13 tackles, a sack, an interception, and one pass defended. He plays the Green Bay Packers in their home opener and could see several runs and deeper routes on play action from Jordan Love. A ten-tackle game is well within reach so grab him if you need defensive back help.
Andre Cisco (JAX) v HOU
Cisco is having a stellar year.
Sit ‘Em
Tre Brown (SEA) v CAR
Brown is the #1 DB in FF7s, and likely several other point formats. He had a career game that he may never have again. He earned 4 tackles, 1 safety, 1 interception, and 1 touchdown. That is impressive, no doubt, but difficult to replicate… even part of it. The Seahawks have playmakers everywhere on their defense and T. Brown will not be able to consistently maintain high-ceiling games. Pine him.
