Welcome to Week 5 of the 2023 season IDP Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em series. For those new to the article, know that Play or Pine will cover IDPs which might seem like an obvious start. The reason is that IDP leagues vary so much; one-time use for the season, 2 IDP starters in 10 team leagues, 11 starters in 14 team leagues, and roster requirements of various sorts throughout the world. So if one seems obvious it could be because the projections indicate this could be their best week of the season.

Week 4 Sits
- DL Harold Landry (TEN) 2.25pts, 2 tackles
- LB Frankie Luvu (CAR) 4.50pts, 5 Total tackles
- DB Derwin James (LAC) – 0.00pts
Another fantastic week with 91.25 points from the plays, and only 6.75 from the pines. Luvu was a a play, but he did exactly as projected if he did play and H. Landry and D. James were spot on. Enough gloating about week four, a new week awaits with it’s challenges.
Start ‘Em
Jonathan Allen (WAS) v CHI
Allen is coming off an impressive week with four tackles and a sack, earning 14.50 points. Yet he is still available even after waivers have cleared. The Washington Commanders are hosting the Chicago Bears after forcing the defending NFC Conference champions to overtime. Expect to see several sacks on Bears quarterback Fields and Allen should get at least 0.5 sack(s) in this match. Pick him up and PLAY HIM if you have a DL on bye this week.
Bradley Chubb (MIA) v NYG
Chubb was on this column a couple of weeks ago and let us down. Here is his chance at redemption as the Miami Dolphins host the New York Giants. Chubb has been unimpressive outside of this one week with a sack, but look for that to change against a team that gave up double-digit sacks in one game.

Kahlil Mack (LAC) BYE WEEK
‘I’m not as good as I once was, but I was good once, as I ever was.’ Kahlil Mack may have found the little rhyme in his head after a 72.50 point, 10 tackle and SIX SACKS. We all love Mack in the IDP community, and he is mentioned here even though on a bye week bc his name will cause people to get him on waivers and play him next week. Do not spend money on him or use a roster spot on him unless in deep bench leagues.
Start ‘Em
Patrick Queen (BAL) @PIT
Queen has been a pleasant surprise this year with over 10 points and each game. He has 36 tackles and 2 sacks on the season and traveling to the bitter rivals of Pittsburgh, the Steelers. Pittsburgh has been lackluster on offense and with Pickett injured, the offense could become a run-heavy team. This will present an opportunity for Queen to improve on his five tackles last week, play him.
Zach Cunningham (PHI) @LAR
Cunningham had an excellent game last week and was one of the top adds among LBs this week. If you have him on your roster do not hesitate to put him in as a starter. The Eagles play the LA Rams who could be without Matthew Stafford and forced to run it often. This will benefit Cunningham with more tackles. Play him and have a double-digit tackle game.
Sit ‘Em
Leighton Vander Esch (DAL) @SF
Vander Esch had his best game of the season. 7 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and his first NFL touchdown, coming in his 6th season. Another popular name that is owned in several leagues. Pine him as he is not dependable and a road game to San Fransisco could which is as unpredictable as they come.
Start ‘Em
Jordan Whitehead (NYJ) @DEN
Whitehead had a season-low 4.50 points last week, and although he has been featured on the pine part of this article, expect a full bounce back against the Denver Broncos this week. Whitehead can play the run and the pass an a few passes defended, paired with his season average of 6 tackles, and who knows maybe an interception off of Russell Wilson. Play him this week.
Sit ‘Em
Darious Williams (JAX) @BUF
Williams is the best thing to come out of Andy’s bedroom, (jk we all love toy story characters). However, his pick-six in London was pure beauty. He is having an amazing year but has a problem with one week’s high scoring and the next week’s duds. As of now, it’s been the duds on odd weeks. Although he has a forced fumble, interception, and touchdown he also has weeks with 1 and 2 tackles. It’s a risk and there are safer options elsewhere.
