Mid-Season Dynasty Awards for 2024. Always a bit of fun!
Dynasty Surprise Package of the Year- BO NIX
This award had a few notable nominees including Darnell Mooney, currently the WR8 in fantasy and out-producing even the biggest Mooney stans expectations. The other big consideration was Chuba Hubbard who has just been killing it on a bad offense and rightfully earned himself a new contract for his great work. The winner is a guy I completely wrote off in year 1 and even with a mediocre cast of receivers, has been incredibly fantasy-relevant. The poise, the scrambling with his legs and his mostly turnover-free football have been so impressive. He’s playing football years ahead of where I thought he would be so has to be my winner!
Dynasty Sophomore of the Year- BIJAN ROBINSON
Bijan Robinson has come in for plenty of criticism for his fantasy output having been drafted so high in 2023. A mediocre Atlanta Falcons offense in 2023 and being part of a running back committee with Tyler Allgeier has seen the ceiling limited for Robinson despite him looking impressive in limited opportunities. That changed in 2204 where he has recently reeled off 5 top 9 finishes in a row, all 5 games scoring more than 20 fantasy points and he firmly asserts himself as the dynasty RB1 in his own tier high and above the rest. Had Rashee Rice not gone down to a season-ending injury then he was certainly on course to be the winner of this category.
Biggest Value-Gainer of the Year- JAYDEN DANIELS
Jayden Daniels has been electric to start his NFL career with the Washington Commanders. Not only has he got the team finally back to winning ways, but in the process has produced consistent fantasy performances. At 464 rushing yards on the season so far, Daniels is that true Konami code QB that is so useful in fantasy. His immediate chemistry with Terry McLaurin has been wonderful and elevated him to being a top 10 WR himself. Other considerations for this award were – Brian Thomas Jr for taking over the WR1 spot for the Jaguars so effortlessly in his rookie year. Nico Collins the other big winner at the WR position as someone who’s gone from a mid WR2 in rankings right up to the elite level in the top 5/6.
Dynasty Bust of the Year- ANTHONY RICHARDSON
There really wasn’t much thought put into this award because there was only 1 runaway winner. The player who was an outside tip from some to be MVP this year, has not only failed to reach the lofty expectations, but has lost his job to long time veteran Joe Flacco. An absolute disaster for Richardson owners who thought they were getting a Konami cheat code in a potentially explosive offense, ended up with dynasty asset nobody truly knows what to do with! Do you stash him away on your bench hoping for one day a return to a starting role? Or do you trade him away for peanuts and recoup whatever you can for him cutting your losses? A Headache and a worthy winner or loser however you want to look at it!
Dynasty Breakout of the Year- DRAKE LONDON
2 Mediocre WR3 finishes for Drake London in his first 2 seasons in the league (WR31 & WR37) having been drafted 8th overall in 2022. That all changed this year when accurate QB Kirk Cousins showed up and lifted this Atlanta Falcons offense to top of the NFC South and more importantly for fantasy managers, lifted London to being a top fantasy producer. WR4 in total points, WR11 in true points per game and a massive increase in TD production (6 TDs represents a 50% increase on his best season so far). Other nominees in this category included London’s team-mate Bijan Robinson and NFC South rival Baker Mayfield who’s current QB2 ranking is by far exceeding expectations.
Waiver Wire Pickup of the Year- CEDRIC TILLMAN
A late entry to the midseason awards but a worthy winner having come from nowhere to becoming a dominant WR option for fantasy managers. With Deshaun Watson, there was zero fantasy success for any receiving options for the Browns and nobody can blame of the receivers for not producing. Ever since Jameis Winston has come into the mix that all changed. Not only has Tillman been dominant (WR2 in PPG since week 7) but the other receiving options like Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore and David Njoku all became fantasy relevant. If Tillman can keep up being so involved in this offense down the stretch he’s a league winner, so for that he becomes my award winner. Other considerations were Jordan Mason who filled in for the injured Christian McCaffrey admirably and secured that RB1 spot for himself. The alternative was Sam Darnold who was on nobodies radars until JJ McCarthy suffered a season ending injury and Darnold took over the Vikings QB1 role. Has looked fantastic on the most part steering the team to a 7-2 record.
Dynasty Stack of the Year- JOE BURROW & JA’MARR CHASE
Every year you get a QB/WR that just stands head and shoulders above the rest and for 2024 so far it’s been the Bengal stack of Burrow & Chase. Huge performances in weeks 3,5 and recently in week 10 have almost been weekly winners by themselves, chase putting up over 50 points himself. Last year it was the Dak Prescott/Ceedee Lamb stack that was a cheat code to winning championships and this looks every bit like it could become that. Whether Tee Higgins has been in our out of the lineup hasn’t made a massive difference with Chase being over 50 points clear of the WR2 on the year. Other considerations in this category included – Jayden Daniels & Terry McLaurin and Baker Mayfield & Chris Godwin.
Dynasty Most Average QB of the Year- TREVOR LAWRENCE
It really doesn’t get much more average than QB15 in points per game so the winner for most average fantasy QB has to be Trevor Lawrence. It’s been everything but average for the Jacksonville Jaguars so far this season who currently occupy the number 1 overall pick it’s been that bad. It’s not all been Trevor Lawrence’s fault though, not that his fantasy managers are very pleased with him if they drafted him 1.01 in rookie drafts in 2021. Since than he had his best finish in his sophomore season sparking excitement that he could push on to become elite and fulfill the ‘generational’ tag he was hailed with by the community. Since then it’s been a whole lot of average with QB17 and currently QB15 in PPG registered. Now currently injured and a return timetable unknown, the Jags will start turning to 2025 where the expectations again will be high for Lawrence and in reality we know for fantasy at least it’ll remain where it always has been, average. Other nominees in this category were – CJ Stroud who has actually been below average this season and one of the biggest disappointments of the year. Patrick Mahomes was closest to taking this award away from Lawrence, another very average year in fantasy currently QB16 in PPG although improving of late (not that he cares when his team sits unbeaten).
