With Week 10 of the 2024 season in the books- time for a dynasty reaction!
Bijan Robinson– RB1
Robinson separating himself from rest of RBs in dynasty. It’s finally coming together for Bijan Robinson to pick up the baton from Christian McCaffrey as the running back cheat code in fantasy. Through the first 5 weeks of the season there wasn’t a single RB1 finish for Robinson with the all to familiar tale of under-usage and too much Tyler Allgeier in the mix. Fast forward to the previous 5 games and it’s been the complete contrast and not one fantasy finish outside of the top 9! While Breece Hall and the Jets offense continue to struggle and Jahmyr Gibbs continues to share the backfield with newly re-signed David Montgomery, Bijan Robinson continues to separate himself from the pack in his own tier at the top of the dynasty RB rankings.
Caleb Williams– Stuttering
What in the world is up with Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears stuttering offense? Caleb Williams the No.1 overall pick in the most recent 2024 NFL Draft was hailed as the next possible generational talent having impressed with his all round skill set in college for USC. He was drafted ahead of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye and Bo Nix… would you take Caleb Williams over either of these 3 QBs in dynasty right now? How did we get here? It was looking so good for Caleb Williams leading the team to 4-2 start heading into their bye week. Since then they’ve been one of the worst offenses in the NFL scoring just 27 points in 3 games. The regression has been astronomical and he looks like one of the shakiest QBs in the league despite having 3 above average WRs to throw to in DJ Moore, Keenan Allen & Rome Odunze. For dynasty, his stock is in free fall. I don’t see a benching but if you thought you had yourself a fantasy superstar a few weeks ago, you may need to rethink.
Chuba Hubbard or Jonathon Brooks in Dynasty
At the start of the season you’d be absolutely laughed at for having Hubbard anywhere near Brooks in dynasty ranks or values. It’s much closer now following a tremendous start to the season for Hubbard and a new 4 year $33 Million contract. Jonathon Brooks hasn’t seen the field in 2024 disappointingly and is yet an unknown quantity. When fantasy managers drafted Brooks in the first round of rookie drafts this year, it was under the belief that he would feature in the mid part of the season and take over the role with a view to becoming a workhorse back heading into 2025. The reality is anything but this and a timeshare is on the cards with Hubbard being so impressive and one of the only bright spots on this Carolina offense. I’d still prefer Brooks in dynasty (if I’m not competing this year) but I do not see him overtaking Hubbard anytime soon who’s currently the RB6 on the season and part of only 3 RBs to have rushed for 800 yards this season along with Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley.
WR League Winners
Jauan Jennings, Darnell Mooney, Calvin Ridley. 3 Wide receivers you can trade for that will cost less than a 1st round pick that will directly help your fantasy team as you push for the playoffs and the all important bye weeks. Jauan Jennings came back with a bang in week 10 following a multi-week injury and slotted in nicely to his role of filling Brandon Aiyuk’s shoes. Turned 11 targets into 93 receiving yards as he ended up the No.1 receiving option on the team against the Bucs. WR20 in points per game this season and more impressively he ranks WR4 in the NFL this year in yards per route run and WR8 in fantasy points per route run. A massive part of the 49ers explosive offense that can be had for as little as a 3rd round pick. Darnell Mooney continues his under the radar breakout campaign and currently occupies the WR8 spot on the season. Mooney has had more receiving yards (684) than team-mate Drake London (6th highest in NFL) and is the 7th most targeted WR in the league. This week Mooney was the team’s first read target rate leader with 38% and can be acquired for a future 2nd round pick which on a contender is a no brainer. Finally Calvin Ridley labelled by many as a bust up until a few weeks ago, has really turned it around. Since DeAndre Hopkins was traded to the Chiefs, Ridley ranks No.1 overall in the NFL for target share with 34%, 2nd in air yards share with 52.9 and is the WR6 in points per game over the past 3 weeks. Ridley is another trade target for my contending teams and can be acquired for a future 2nd and 4th or my preferred method is to trade a struggling younger WR like Jordan Addison for Ridley straight up.
Justin Herbert Positive Regression
Herbert positive regression, finally. In what was a frustrating period for dynasty managers, Justin Herbert was asked to be a successful game manager in the first 6 weeks of the season. That role has changed since week 7 thankfully and Herbert’s passing attempts and passing output has flourished. In those most recent 4 weeks, Justin Herbert is the No.1 QB according to PFF grading and ranks No.1 in big time throws, a far cry from the restricted role earlier on. Herbert through the first 6 weeks was a dismal QB31 in points per game and since the offensive philosophy change he’s been the QB9 averaging 19.5 points per game. The overall rapport with his receiving options has looked much better recently and Herbert has now registered multiple TDs in each of the past 3 games.
Audric Estime– RB1 for Broncos
With Javonte Williams role reducing with each of the past 4 weeks, it was Audric Estime who stepped up in week 10 with the majority of carries. When I say majority of carries, I mean domination of rushing attempts! 14 carries to Javonte’s 1 and Jaleel McLaughlin only registered 2 himself. Working his way back from an early injury, Estime had been a bit part player so far in his rookie year but impressively registering 6.3 yards per carry up until this week, he managed to grind out 53 yards from his 14 carries. It wasn’t no breakout but it did bring about praise from his head coach who said he was ‘encouraged’ and that he will ‘continue to get more reps’ going forward. Estime brings a violent style to his game being a bigger, heavier back than Williams and McLaughlin. Maybe this is the start of another impressive rookie campaign which is so far headlined by Tyrone Tracy and Bucky Irving.
Kyler Murray– Back To Fantasy Best?
It’s still not perfect (although by the stats Kyler nearly had a perfect passer rating going for 22 completions on just 24 attempts) but my god it’s good to see Kyler produce meaningful fantasy points again. By meaningful I mean back up to a mid QB1 where found himself in the first 3 years of his NFL career when he took the league by storm. Not since the year 2020 has Kyler Murray played a full season having suffered multiple injuries and generally struggled in big spots over the past few seasons. This year now with Marvin Harrison Jr on board as WR1, it’s looked much better and especially in the past 6 weeks he’s back to being a low QB1 at 19.0 points per game. With the Cardinals defense stepping up in a huge way recently, Murray isn’t having to be superman and do it all himself. He looks much more settled in this offense and the rushing TDs have been coming – 4 in the past 6 games (you have to go back to Week 12 in 2023 for his last rushing score before this run).
Rookie RB Stars
Tyrone Tracy perhaps the most impressive in ousting starting running back Devin Singletary from his role as Giants RB1. Apart from losing a crucial fumble in week 10, has looked utterly dominant in his 6 starting games so far. This past week rumbling for another 100+ yard performance, 18 carries for 103 yards at 5.72 per carry. He’s been a bright spot on the struggling Giants offense and even getting Malik Nabers back from injury recently hasn’t the passing game back into life. I’d be doing everything I can to trade for a target like Tyrone Tracy who looks capable of leading this backfield for the foreseeable future while they work on upgrading positions elsewhere. Bucky Irving has had a slower rise to the top of the depth chart over on the Buccaneers. He’s still yet to have a game with over 66% of the snaps but with every passing week, looks better and better. Registering his 4th TD of the season on the ground this past week against the 49ers, Irving was by far the most impressive Bucs RB on display, making multiple defenders miss when running in his score from 14 yards out. He did match his season high touches in week 10 and now entering the bye, I hope the rookie can be given even more opportunities as he looks to keep taking work from Rachaad White who’s been featuring much more heavily in the passing game lately. If I can acquire either of these 2 running backs (Tracy & Irving) for anything less than a 1st round pick, it makes sense in any current position whether you are contending or not.
