2024 Week 2 Dynasty Reaction

With Week 2 of the 2024 season in the books- time for a dynasty reaction!

Are the Saints Back?

The New Orleans Saints hire of Clint Kubiak as OC was the signing of the offseason. The Saints new style offense went from one of the dullest offenses in recent times and dead last in the NFL in pre-snap motion, to number one in the NFL in pre-snap motion and play-action in ONE WEEK. The result has been Alvin Kamara tearing up the first 2 weeks scoring 5 times, Rashid Shaheed catching another long TD bomb and Chris Olave finally getting going against the Dallas Cowboys. Rashid Shaheed has been a big buy for me all offseason moving into that WR2 role on the team and he’s become a serious WR3 in dynasty. Until anything changes or the NFL figures them out, this offense is money I’m and willing to buy into it.

Jameson Williams– The Next DET WR breakout?

Williams is finally a legit fantasy asset. Two years after being incredibly excited by the rookie out of Alabama, he’s delivering fantasy production. Week1 was an explosion with his first 100 yard outing. Week 2 was arguably just as good, seeing an increase in targets and cementing his role as a full time starter now on this offense. Tim Patrick made his debut for the Lions in week 2 but wasn’t a big factor and more importantly, didn’t take anything away from Williams who has now risen 15 spots in my dynasty rankings.

Jordan Mason‘s Market

The asking price for Jordan Mason is a 1st round pick. Luckily I managed to grab as many shares of Jordan Mason before his week 1 breakout, he was a clear dynasty stash as soon as Christian McCaffrey’s injury struggles were apparent in the preseason. Two games in and Jordan Mason is producing as a mid RB1 (19.8 ppr fantasy points per game). I’ve already been approached with an offer of a 2nd (likely late) and it’s not enough to secure his services away from me. Some may see a late 2nd as good cash in value for a player that only cost you faab. The way I see it, I have a mid RB1 with a favorable stretch coming up and Christian McCaffrey on IR and looking likely to miss more than 4 games. I’d buy for a 2nd, I’m asking a future 1st but I’d sell for 2 x 2nds.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Has Landed

His first 100 yard game in the NFL and leader of targets on the 2-0 Seattle Seahawks. It’s been a rough ride for JSN owners who paid a mid 1st round pick in 2023 for his services but fantasy managers who stuck by him look to finally be rewarded. 16 Targets from 44 routes run and more importantly leading the team in two WR sets, this looks like JSN’s upgraded role moving forward. JSN played in 7 of 12 snaps in 12 personnel sets this week which is the most encouraging stat line of his young career. Are they finally going to start fazing out Tyler Lockett in favour of JSN at this point of his career?

Braelon Allen– Best Handcuff in the League?

Setting the NFL record for being the only 20 year old or younger to record a rushing  TD and receiving TD in the same game. The New York Jets already have one of the best running backs in the game in Breece Hall but worked in Braelon Allen more this week who repaid them with a stat line of 9 touches for 56 yards and 2 TDs. It won’t always be this good for Allen and his opportunities will be limited but if anything happens to Breece Hall health-wise, Braelon Allen becomes a fantasy monster in this upgraded offense with Aaron Rodgers.

D’Andre Swift– Losing Playing Time?

It’s not all smiles in what we learned in week 2 and for D’Andre Swift owners I would be pretty nervous about now. Week 1 was a struggle but week 2 was a new low, 14 rushing attempts for 18 yards. The upside to Swift heading into this season was a potential 3 down role on a vastly improved offense after receiving the bag in the offseason. This certainly hasn’t materialized and in week 2 he saw most of his 3rd down work go to backup Travis Homer while he continued to share the goal line and short yardage work with Khalil Herbert. If he continues to remain ineffective he could cede more of the 1st and 2nd down work and then he becomes completely irrelevant.

Chris Godwin– New #1 WR?

If the first 2 weeks are anything to go by then the saying could be true with Liam Coen dialing up plenty of exotic usage for Godwin while Mike Evans is doubled in his usual way. Defenses haven’t worked out how to stop Godwin through 2 weeks and he currently sits as the overall WR1 having recorded back to back 20+ point outings. In search of a new contract with his expiring at the end of this season, Godwin has registered 200 receiving yards through 2 weeks and caught 2 TD passes which matches the same TD output he had in the WHOLE of the 2023 season. In this offense under Liam Coen, Godwin is a big dynasty riser and is I feel there is still a window to buy him and not have to overpay.

De’Von Achane– Workload To Increase?

What happened to Tua Tagovailoa was terrible and fantasy football goes out the window in this situatio, we all wish him a speedy recovery. It’s devastating for Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle owners because the ceiling for the next few games at least is incredibly capped. Up steps De’Von Achane who saw a massive 29 opportunities despite coming into the Thursday night contest as a game-time decision. Another great fantasy performance (29.5) and his role on this team will be crucial going forward with lots of dump offs incoming from backup Skylar Thompson. If Achane can stay healthy, he’s a dynasty top 5 RB and people need to adjust to it because there’s only a couple of running backs that can produce fantasy points like he can.
