With Week 5 of the 2024 season in the books- time for a dynasty reaction!
Bijan Robinson & Breece Hall– Can It Get Better?
The usage was there this week for Breece Hall, seeing the highest percentage of snaps compared to the last 3 weeks but couldn’t get anything going and the offensive line is a mess. The team were playing from behind all game against the Vikings and I fear that in closer contests, Braelon Allen’s snaps will get increasingly higher as he looks the more effective back on the ground. Bijan on the other hand was effective on the ground but was only given 12 rushing opportunities with Tyler Allgeier contributing 6 attempts. 3 receptions for Bijan for just 16 yards and despite the Falcons putting up over 30 points, 0 TDs for Bijan and still just 1 TD on the season. These running backs are both a hold in Dynasty and hope their situations can change because currently RB21 & RB24 in fantasy points per game isn’t getting it done.
Return of Ja’Marr Chase
The past 18 months have been mostly negative for Ja’Marr Chase who on the opposite end of the spectrum to Breece Hall & Bijan Robinson, got his elite tag back in week 5. 193 receiving yards was comfortably the most recorded In a single game this season so far and had 2 TDs to round off an amazing, but somehow losing, display. Joe Burrow hyper-targeted his top 2 receivers Chase and Tee Higgins which is exactly what fantasy managers want to see. Ja’Marr Chase had been slowly dropping down fantasy rankings with the likes of Malik Nabers, Nico Collins performing incredibly this season but if anybody had any doubts, he’s back. If this version of Joe Burrow turns up each week, Chase and Higgins to the moon.
Lamar Jackson– Put The Team On His Back
Jackson deserves so much credit for his performance this week in dragging the Ravens past division rivals Cincinnati Bengals. Over 400 total yards and 4 passing TDs to cement himself as the current QB1 on the season following three glorious games back to back with 9 total TDs and zero turnovers. I reached on Lamar in my single startup this offseason taking him as QB2, I absolutely love my decision now. Oh and the cherry on top was a sighting of TE Mark Andrews, blink and you missed it. Is he back or is he a sell high/for whatever you can get? I prefer the latter, I’m not convinced.
Drake London– Breakout
London is slowly getting back to where the community thought he was going to be this season. For the second week running London saw 12+ targets and this time he turned them into 12 receptions for 154 yards and a TD. We won’t see Kirk Cousins air the ball out for over 500 yards each week and the volume won’t be this high likely ever, but the underlying numbers are encouraging that London will stick around this mark. Targets per route run is in the elite bracket now and will be interesting to see if this can be sustained and finally fulfil that lofty ADP.
Rome Odunze– Buy Now
Odunze is such a buy right now in Dynasty if any manager is out there wanting to re-invest his premium draft pick after 5 weeks. It’s been a slow start for Rome Odunze who came in to the NFL with sky high expectations after being selected in the top 10 of the 2024 NFL Draft. One big game in week 3 surrounded by 4 sub-par fantasy outings has seen the fantasy community start talking about whether he can produce on this offense that boasts DJ Moore and Keenan Allen. While we are seeing breakouts by rookies Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr and spike weeks from Xavier worthy and Marvin Harrison Jr, the positivity on Odunze is very quiet. This week Odunze saw 6 targets, the same as Keenan Allen and just 2 less than DJ Moore who had all the headlines. I think Caleb Williams is starting to heat up and we know Keenan Allen who’s getting up there in age is not going to be in Chicago for very long so now is going to be the cheapest price to acquire Rome Odunze who I think has all the talent in the world. I’d still easily offer a future 1st in the hope to acquire and stash him for the long haul, we haven’t seen anywhere near the real Odunze just yet.
Brian Thomas Jr.- The Real Thing?
Last week I ranked Brian Thomas Jr as my WR18 ahead of Jaylen Waddle who I’ve always adored for dynasty. I thought it was a semi hot take to have him that high, it turns out I wasn’t high enough. For the third week in a row Brian Thomas Jr saw 8+ targets, securing his 2 TD in as many games and finds himself up to the WR9 on the season. While targets were spread round, Brian Thomas dominated the snaps with Gabe Davis in 12 personnel (Christian Kirk plying no part of 2 TE sets) and dominates the looks over Davis with the Jaguars in this formation. It’s such a positive for a rookie to have taken over the WR1 role so early into his career whereas I thought it could take the season to adjust before dominating this room. The knock on him in college was his lack of a proper diverse route tree he was asked to do in college, being almost used exclusively as a deep ball artist which he done to perfection catching 17 TDs in his final season at LSU. Brian Thomas has entered fringe WR1 territory and I would move him ahead of the likes of Chris Olave, DK Metcalf and Brandon Aiyuk.
Tucker Kraft– An Effective Fantasy TE in Green Bay!?
Shoutout to a TE that’s absolutely ballin’ out right now (other than Brock Bowers), Tucker Kraft is producing fantasy gold securing another 2 TDs this week to go along with his single TD reception in week 4. While the continuing struggles are there for the most part with the elite TE options, Tucker Kraft finds himself the TE2 on the season and has relegated Luke Musgrave to a bench spot in the process. Looking very Gronkowski-esque, Tucker received a pass out in space and took it to the house from 66 yards out pushing one defender to the ground and evading another. He’s still a buy target for me in dynasty and a must start currently while the WR room is banged up. When they get healthy he still remains integral to what the Packers do and has a great chemistry with Jordan Love, don’t delay any longer on Kraft.
Jaylen Wright– Heating Up
Jaylen Wright was given an extended look this past week with the concussion suffered by De’Von Achane at the end of the first quarter. That led to Wright seeing 13 carries for an impressive 86 yards against the Patriots defense. Wright was a small part of the running back rotation while Achane was on the field which is important to note he’s not just a pure backup even at this early stage of his career. Wright has gained a first down on 20.7% of his rushes this season which is higher than that of Achane’s (14.3) and Mostert (12.0). His explosiveness fits this offense to a tee and it’s hard to see past a RB rotation of Achane and Wright from 2025 and being very fantasy relevant. Wright was highly admired in the pre-draft process (my Rookie RB3) but slipped in the draft and landed behind an already established RB duo. I think you can still buy Wright for a 2nd which would represent great value for a player that’s only 21 and I’m really excited about his future on this team.
