It’s finally here- Week 6 of the 2024 season, and another DraftKings main slate. We are back offering you DFS advice to try and help you navigate your way to victories throughout the season. The players selected here are based on their price, their ability to hit value and likely ownership. The selections are leaning more towards GPP slates, rather than cash (50/50) slates. But let’s get into it
Jordan Love v AZ ($6,600)
There wasn’t too much to like, let alone love about the Packers’ $220m man’s performance last weekend. Green Bay may have won the game at SoFi 24-19 – but the victory came in spite of Love’s first-half performance, which saw him toss the first pick-six of his career. The 25-year old signal caller salvaged his day – or rather tight end Tucker Kraft did – with a pair of bomb touchdowns in the third quarter, as the Packers came from behind against the Rams to move to 3-2 on the year. To Love’s credit, he rebounded well from the disappointment of the INT completing his first 5 attempts of the second half for 114 yards and the aforementioned 2 TDs to Kraft. Love and his receiving corps should have another excellent opportunity this Sunday to pad their season stats as they take on the Arizona Cardinals and their 24th ranked pass defense at Lambeau. Brock Purdy posted his 2nd worst passing performance of the season against the Cards last week…and still ended the day with 244 yards and a score. Love looks set for a very healthy fantasy day this weekend – hopefully he can do it over all four quarters this time.
Kirk Cousins @CAR ($6,200)
Welcome back to the slatebreakers column, Kirk…it’s been a minute. Captain Kirk once again set phasers to stun as he casually threw a franchise record 509-yards in the Falcons Thursday Night Football victory over the Buccaneers last week..oh yeah, he also tagged on 4 touchdowns in the process. The win saw Cousins put up the second best fantasy performance of his 13-year career, his best in almost nine-years. There’s no way I am expecting Kirk to throw the ball 58-times every week – but with the 36-year old seemingly having excellent chemistry with both Drake London and Darnell Mooney – there’s no reason they shouldn’t be slinging the rock plenty moving forward. The Falcons head on the road to Charlotte to face a Carolina Panthers team ranked 27th against the position – beam me up, I’m all in on Kirk this weekend.
Also consider: Jayden Daniels @BAL ($7,300) & Dak Prescott v DET ($6,700)
Josh Jacobs v AZ ($6,700)
Congratulations to Josh Jacobs who finally managed to remove himself from the “most touches without a touchdown” list after finding the endzone on a 2-yard plunge to open the scoring in Los Angeles last weekend. The score, unsurprisingly, provided Jacobs – and his fantasy managers – with his best performance of the season so far…despite only recording only his 3rd highest yardage total. His 19 carries are a far cry from the 32 he received back in week 2 in the win over Indianapolis – but should be around what we can come to expect from the Packers’ undisputed leader in the backfield, now that the offense is back to relatively full strength (sorry Christian Watson truthers). The Cardinals are equally as bad against the run as they are against the pass – with Green Bay being 5.5 point home favourites – I’m anticipating an excellent fantasy day for Jacobs – who knows, maybe he’ll make it back-to-back games with a rushing touchdown, or maybe finally record that elusive passing score!
Najee Harris @LV ($5,800)
With Cordarelle Paterson and Jaylen Warren both missing through injury, the stage was set for the Steelers’ Najee Harris to dominate proceedings and really put on a show in week 5 against a Cowboys running defense allowing the most fantasy points to opposing running backs in the National Football League. Wouldn’t fantasy football be dull if things always went to plan? Despite Harris having zero competition in the backfield, he ended his day with his 2nd fewest carries (14) and rushing yards (42) of the season, as the Steelers suffered back-to-back defeats to move to 3-2. The outing saw Najee receive his fewest total opportunities on the year – his 2 catches for 35 yards salvaging his day. This feels like deja vu writing this…but just as it was in 2023, Harris has opened his year with 5 scoreless games on the ground or through the air. Remember that list I mentioned above – guess who sits at the top? Harris has 94 carries without a score…but positive regression is surely coming. With a week 6 matchup against a 29th ranked Raiders run defense – who have given up 8 TDs on the season – surely this is the game Harris finds the endzone? Patterson and Warren look set to miss for the second week in a row…let’s go Najee.
Rachaad White @NO ($5,700)
There’s a pattern in these three picks. Harris may sit atop the running back naughty list – but Rachaad White, with 68 scoreless touches – isn’t far behind. White actually had his best rushing performance of the season in the Bucs Thursday Night Football defeat on the road in Atlanta, running for 72 scoreless yards on only 10 carries – remarkably he also added 3 receptions for negative 6 yards. It’s been tough sledding for last year’s fantasy RB7 – mediocre performances mixed with the emergence of rookie talent Bucky Irving has left many White managers sweating over their investment. Thursday’s output – coupled with Irving’s late and costly fumble – should ensure White keeps a firm grasp on the starter’s role for the foreseeable future – and at only $5,700 on the road in New Orleans – I fancy Rachaad to improve on last week’s showing and add a few more receptions to give a much more familiar finish for fantasy purposes this week.
Also consider: Jahmyr Gibbs @DAL ($7,000), Bijan Robinson @CAR ($6,600) & Rico Dowdle v DET ($5,900)
Drake London ($6,700)/Darnell Mooney ($5,300) @CAR
This is more of a select as your budget dictates pick…because I love both of these guys on the road in Carolina this weekend. Finishing as the WR2 and WR3 respectively in week 5, London and Mooney should continue to see enough targets from Kirk Cousins to make the pair of them viable fantasy options each and every week. London is the clear alpha in this wide receiver corps in terms of raw talent – but with both men seeing 40+ targets through five weeks – Mooney is a dark horse for your rosters…particularly with a price tag $1,400 cheaper on this Sunday’s slate. With Carolina ranking 27th against QBs, it’s not surprising they are also a bottom-10 unit against wide receivers. Don’t expect the same levels of production that we saw against Tampa Bay – but there should be enough to go around for both London and Mooney to be excellent options at the WR position this weekend.
Terry McLaurin @BAL ($6,400)
There was nothing scary about Terry McLaurin’s performance last weekend as Jayden Daniels’ favourite weapon finished as a fantasy WR2 for the third consecutive week. McLaurin didn’t find the endzone as he had the two previous games, but his 112 receiving yards on just 4 receptions were a season-best and his second highest yardage total in almost two years of football. With a whopping 44% of the team’s wide receiver targets, Terry is the clear top pass-catching option on this Commanders’ offense and with a trip to Maryland on the cards to face the league’s worst pass defense – he’s a smash play in all fantasy formats this Sunday. The Ravens are a 6.5 point favourite at home, with an O/U of 51.5 – expect Jayden Daniels to throw the ball a tonne, and Terry McLaurin to be his first choice of target more often than not.
Jalen Tolbert v DET ($5,000)
Can I interest you in a wideout who just led the NFL’s leading passing offense in targets, receptions, yards and touchdowns this past week? No, I don’t mean CeeDee Lamb, rather his Dallas Cowboys teammate – third-year receiver Jalen Tolbert. With veteran Brandin Cooks landing on Injured Reserve, there were question marks surrounding who (if anyone) would step up to be the WR2 for Dak Prescott. Turns out, it didn’t take long for Tolbert to establish himself as the third option in this Cowboys passing offense behind Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson. Tolbert has big play ability, and with Cooks set to miss at least the next 3 weeks – provides an excellent floor for your rosters at a very wallet friendly price. Detroit surrenders the most yards to opposing wideouts in the NFL – expect Tolbert to keep it rolling as the Lions visit Arlington this weekend.
Also consider: Jayden Reed v AZ ($7,000), Chris Godwin @NO ($6,900) & Zay Flowers v WAS ($6,500)
Trey McBride @GB ($5,700)
Despite not playing in week 4, and finishing as the TE25 and TE17 in weeks 3 and 5 respectively – Trey McBride still sits as the overall TE10 on the season…and that tells you everything you need to know about the position in 2024. Hauling in 6-of-9 targets for just 53 yards, Sunday wasn’t one of TMcB’s better fantasy days – but with Kyler Murray and James Conner managing to trample all over the 49ers on the ground – McBride wasn’t as necessary in the Cardinals’ surprise victory as many would have anticipated on seeing the final score. There’s little reason for fantasy managers to panic – McBride still led the team in targets and receptions, and with 4th overall pick Marvin Harrison Jr. continuing to struggle to find a rhythm with Kyler, the 24-year old tight end remains an elite option at the position. He’s pricey this week, but the Packers are susceptible against the TE – roster him with confidence.
Zach Ertz @BAL ($3,700)
Terry McLaurin may have 44% of all wide receiver targets on the year for the Commanders – but that accounts for only 33% of all pass-catchers, thanks largely to Zach Ertz and his 22% share of the looks from Jayden Daniels through five weeks. Ertz sits just outside TE1 range on the season in season-long formats, and is averaging 5 targets per week on one of the most entertaining and exciting offenses in the league…there’s life in this old dog yet. A month shy of his 34th birthday, Ertz isn’t the most athletic or speedy tight end on the slate – but he is receiving a bucket load of targets from his rookie QB, and but for a slight overthrow by Daniels in the first quarter in the victory over Cleveland – Ertz would have walked in a 98-yard score and finish as a top-3 TE on the week. If you’re looking to spend down at the position but still maintain plenty of upside – Ertz is an excellent pick at only $3,700.
Also consider: Tucker Kraft v AZ ($4,600) & Mark Andrews v WAS ($3,900)
Pittsburgh Steelers @LV ($3,700)
This is the fourth time in six weeks Pittsburgh has appeared in this column…and with good cause. The Steelers have allowed only one touchdown on the ground through five weeks and average a 3rd best 3.7 Y/A to opposing running backs. They may be a middle-of-the-pack unit against the pass…but they get to face a bottom-of-the-barrell offense in the shape of the Las Vegas Raiders and their QB carousel in Sin City this weekend. They may be the most expensive DST on the slate, but I don’t care. If you can afford them…pay up.
Philadelphia Eagles v CLE ($3,400)
If you can’t quite stretch to $3,700 for the Steelers, save yourself a few hundred dollars and roster the Philadelphia Eagles instead. This isn’t so much a pro-Philly take, as an anti-Cleveland one. The Browns have allowed an eye-watering 26 sacks on the season so far – an average of over 5 per game. Cleveland have scored only twice on the ground so far this year and just five times through the air. Their implied points total of only 16 is one of the lowest on the entire slate and as long as Deshaun Watson remains under center, I have no fears of them eclipsing that. The Eagles could easily finish as the top scoring DST this week, and are as safe as it gets for only $3,400.
Also consider: Denver Broncos v LAC ($3,200) & Indianapolis Colts @TEN ($3,100)
