With Week 6 of the 2024 season in the books- time for a dynasty reaction!
Grab Backup RBs
This has been said for a number of seasons but you MUST stash backup RBs on your dynasty rosters. Forget those WR3s or TE2 roster cloggers, look at the number of backup RBs who got major opportunity in week 6. Tyrone Tracy kept rolling after his awesome first game to post big numbers again in a losing effort to the Bengals. The Buccaneers duo of Sean Tucker and Bucky Irving both were given bigger opportunities thanks to Rachaad White’s foot injury, they finished as the RB1 and RB12 on the week. Tyler Allgeier remains one of the premium handcuffs in the NFL and despite Bijan Robinson’s 2 TDs, was an RB1 this week (RB11). We saw the explosive introduction of Kimani Vidal and the emergence of Chase Brown ahead of Zack Moss. It is so important you keep your rosters full of backup RBs with all the unfortunate injuries we are seeing, they are getting more and more opportunity and the spike in value potential is massive.
Baker Mayfield– Back At It
Baker Mayfield has to be taken more seriously as an important QB asset in dynasty. It’s been a tough start to Baker Mayfield’s career since going first overall to the Cleveland Browns back in 2018. Now onto his fourth team, Baker Mayfield has finally found his home in Tampa Bay, and it’s been a match made in heaven. Mayfield’s first season in Tampa was a decent one, finishing as the QB10 but this year he’s taken it to another level. Currently Baker is all the way up to the QB2 in fantasy averaging 23.4 points per game (only bettered by current MVP Lamar Jackson). One of the more impressive stats is not just looking at this chemistry with Chris Godwin & Mike Evans, but his rushing output has increased and 2 rushing TDs in the first 4 games shows he’s comfortable in this new Liam Coen offense. Having been given a big new contract in the offseason, Baker is a high end QB2 right now in dynasty and is an active trade for candidate if I’m struggling with production with the likes of Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott.
Caleb Williams– Good Trip To London?
Caleb Williams is already looking very comfortable in this Bears offense, who are red hot right now! All the rookie talk has been rightly about Jayden Daniels with his fast start in what we thought would be a struggling Commanders team. Williams is now looking every bit the player we thought he could be when we spent the rookie 1.01 pick on him. Over in London, Caleb’s Bears team had a very slow start going scoreless after the first quarter but exploded the rest of the game tossing 4 passing TDs and having his way with the hapless Jaguars defense. With Keenan Allen healthy now and Rome Odunze coming along slowly, this offense is already entering top 10 and I can’t wait to see how far Caleb Williams can take his level once he’s taken complete control of this offense. Between Williams & Daniels we have two top 10 dynasty QBs who both have the talent to rise up into elite status for years to come.
TE Bounce Back?
Not quite but we are heading towards a spot where we can feel more comfortable about our starters at the position and going forward in dynasty. We welcomed back Evan Engram and David Njoku for the first game properly since week 1 and was encouraging signs for the both of them. Engram the standout with the perfect performance of 10 targets, 10 catches for over 100 yards. Njoku had a quieter day but still registered 7 targets with his snap share back up to 74%, a good sign of things to come. We also finally got a Mark Andrews TD, his first since Week 8 last season. Still only seeing around a 50% snap share though, Andrews is a big sell high for me. Also this week, George Kittle remained the current TE1 with another top 5 performance, his 4th in a row. It was also nice to see Trey McBride see such a big workload and Sam LaPorta the almost forgotten man register his first TD of the season.
All the Sides of Will Levis
The good, the bad and the ugly. More like the bad, the worst and the ugliest from Will Levis this season! The Tennessee Titans have given Will Levis every chance to succeed or at the very least be a serviceable QB in 2024 with upgrades at WR and RB with Calvin Ridley, Tyler Boyd & Tony Pollard added to their offense. It’s been just an awful start though for Levis who I really didn’t anticipate playing himself out of a job this early into his career. But that’s the way it’s headed with him making ugly game-losing turnover throws which has cost the Titans in close contests and now the writing is looking like it’s on the wall. A close loss to the Colts in Week 6 leaves the Titans on just 1 win and looking already out of contention, will he last the season as starting QB? I’m desperate to try and shift my remaining few shares of Levis who sits at QB31 at 9.1 PPG but with the upcoming brutal schedule of the Bills, Lions, Patriots & Chargers it might prove impossible. If he’s your QB4 it’s a hold and see situation.
Josh Jacobs– Endzone Trip?
Positive TD regression is coming for.. Josh Jacobs! Jacobs and the Packers offense is flying in 2024 with Jordan Love tossing 12 TDs in just his 4 contests played so far. Jacobs has only accounted for 1 total TD on the season despite him looking good himself. This has to change, over Jacobs’ career he’s averaged a TD every 28.3 carries. So far he’s at 108 rushing attempts and just the solitary score on the ground. Looking at WR, two positive TD regression candidates are Brandon Aiyuk & George Pickens. Aiyuk fresh off his huge $120 million contract has not got going yet despite the 49ers being banged up at RB & WR, he’s sure to get it going down the stretch as this team makes a playoff run. George Pickens started off hot but has since has his chemistry struggles with Justin Fields. Pickens having come off his first 1,000 yard season where he caught 5 TDs has yet to find the end zone despite registering 363 receiving yards.
Josh Downs or Michael Pittman for the Colts?
Josh Downs > Michael Pittman Jr in dynasty? Well that’s been the case ever since Downs returned to the lineup. Despite Josh Downs entering Week 6 as questionable with a toe injury, he carried on his hot streak with Joe Flacco with another TD reception making it his 2nd in 3 weeks. Downs has seen 30 targets in his last 3 contests, this week seeing 10 which was double that of Pittman. The 2023 3rd rounder has always been a solid weapon operating in the slot moving the chains for Indy but now adding TDs to his game can take his worth to another level.
2nd Wave of Rookie QBs Make Their Mark
Bo Nix has started the season quietly compared to the likes of Jayden Daniels and Caleb Williams but is now making a name for himself to. After a slow start where Nix had 0 passing TDs in his first 2 games to 4 INTs, he’s since been almost perfect on the stat line of 5 passing TDs to just 1 INT. perhaps more impressive is his rushing ability though, with 3 rushing TDs in 6 games and 61 rushing yards against the Chargers this past week. If he can consistently be a threat on the ground as well as keep getting more comfortable in the pocket, Nix can be a real dynasty asset. The same can be said for Drake Maye who comes in to the NFL as a QB who we know has rushing upside, he showed us a glimpse of that in his first start this week. 5 rushing attempts for 38 yards is a solid start but when you add his ability to spread the ball around (3 passing TDs on debut), the kid has got real fantasy upside. Drake Maye could be the biggest buy in dynasty at the QB position.
