It’s finally here- Week 7 of the 2024 season, and another DraftKings main slate. We are back offering you DFS advice to try and help you navigate your way to victories throughout the season. The players selected here are based on their price, their ability to hit value and likely ownership. The selections are leaning more towards GPP slates, rather than cash (50/50) slates. But let’s get into it
Jordan Love v HOU ($6,900)
Through the first six weeks of the 2024 season the Packers’ new $220 million man sits T-2nd with another $55 million a year QB in total passing touchdowns – both Love and Joe Burrow have found their target in the endzone on a dozen occasions this year, three times fewer than the Bucs Baker Mayfield…oh yeh, did I forget to mention Love has done this in two fewer games? Despite a down week against the Rams in week 5, Green Bay’s franchise quarterback sprung back to life in the 34-13 demolition of Arizona last weekend – posting his second 4 touchdown game of the year so far. Love’s 32 attempts were his 2nd lowest of the season, but his 69% completion rate was by far his highest as he looked locked in with Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed. The 25-year old has looked sensational so far and will get another chance to light up the box-scores against a Texans defense that, although relatively stingy with passing yards (4th fewest), are fairly generous with fantasy points in general (11th most). Love is the 6th highest priced QB on the slate but is averaging the 3rd best PPG at the position on the year – start him with confidence.
Sam Darnold v DET ($6,200)
Fresh off the bye week after his worst performance of the season in London – Sam Darnold will be looking to bounce back in the best way possible as the Vikings push to maintain their perfect start to the season – and there’s almost no better remedy for a struggling quarterback than the Detroit Lions secondary. Don’t be fooled by Dak Prescott’s woeful display in the Lions’ blowout win in Arlington…this is still a unit that can be thrown on, and despite holding Dak to a meagre 178-yards, still ranks in the bottom-5 against the position. Aaron Jones looks set to miss with a hip injury – do expect Darnold and the passing game to be relied upon in a matchup that has the 3rd highest O/U on the week. The former No.3 overall pick still sits 4th on the year in passing touchdowns despite having played through his bye. I am anticipating Darnold to post his highest yardage total of the season so far in this one, and he’ll have to if Minnesota wants to remain perfect. He’s a great value play at $6,200 and could easily post over 300-yards and multiple touchdowns.
Also consider: Kirk Cousins v SEA ($6,300) & Geno Smith @ATL ($5,800)
Chuba Hubbard @WAS ($6,500)
As a Jonathan Brooks truther and someone who has him stashed on IR everywhere…I am worried about Chuba Hubbard. In the last four weeks, only Derrick Henry has scored more fantasy points at the running back position than Carolina’s scat back, and only Alvin Kamara and Kenneth Walker have recorded more receptions. Hubbard is doing it all, even on this relatively toothless Panther’s offense. Their trip to the nation’s capital to face the Commanders has the highest O/U on the week at 51.5 – even at 7.5 point dogs, that still gives the Panthers an implied team total of 22 points…not too shabby. Washington ranks 20th against running backs on the year and are giving up almost 150-yards per game on the ground – with only Miles Sanders challenging for touches, expect Chubba to remain highly productive in this offense until Brooks is ready to suit up.
Tony Pollard @BUF ($6,300)
Speaking of running backs facing almost zero competition in their respective backfields…we need to talk about the Titans’ Tony Pollard. TP has finished as RB15 in back-to-back weeks, either side of Tennessee’s bye – posting almost identical stat lines in the games against Miami and Indianapolis. Pollard is averaging just under 20 opportunities per game, and is a lock for 4 catches and 20-yards through the air each week, giving him a very safe floor for your roster. With Tyjae Spears likely out for another couple of weeks, Julius Chestnut (outstanding name) being the only other body in this backfield, and Will Levis just generally being terrible at football – it’s safe to assume Tony Pollard will continue to see a healthy workload, even with the Titans being nine point underdogs on the road in Buffalo. Thankfully for Pollard, the Bills are awful against the run, ranking 31st against opposition backs so far this season – expect TP to run all over this D-Line time and time again on Sunday evening…just don’t expect Tennessee to actually win obviously.
Alexander Mattison @LAR ($5,500)
This isn’t so much a confidence pick, rather a hope that somebody on this offense not named Brock Bowers can actually do something productive – and given how he’s likely to see double/triple coverage on every play moving forward – Mattison seems the most likely man to contribute in some form. With the surprise departure of Davante Adams to the Jets, injuries to Jakobi Meyers and Zamir White, and the quarterback carousel landing on Aidan O’Connell (for last week at least) – Mattison actually performed fairly admirably with the opportunities he was afforded – 65-total yards, including 5 receptions and a touchdown, saw him finish just outside RB1 territory against the Steelers in Vegas’ fourth loss of the year last weekend. The Raiders now face a short trip to Los Angeles to face a very soft Rams run-defense. Look for Mattison to once again go under the radar, but potentially be a top-15 option for a budget price tag.
Also consider: Kenneth Walker III @ATL ($7,300), Bijan Robinson v SEA ($7,100) & Kareem Hunt @SF ($6,000)
D.K. Metcalf @ATL ($6,800)
Is there a more frustrating wide receiver to own in re-draft right now than D.K. Metcalf? The 26-year old ended his day in the Seahawks 24-36 loss to divisional rivals San Francisco with 3 receptions for just 48-scoreless yards. On the face of things, this was a bad night for Seattle’s No.1 wide receiver – but considering he had eleven targets, a dropped catch which would have been a certain TD, as well as a 52-yard bomb touchdown negated for a penalty…it could, nae should have been a great fantasy night for the big #14. Metcalf is far and away the most talented receiver in this offense and is being targeted as such – keep the faith, Atlanta have allowed multiple scores to opposing wideouts in back-to-back games…this has all the hallmarks of a BIG D.K. week, and as they tend to come along once every couple of months – don’t miss out!
Tee Higgins @CLE ($6,400)
After finishing as the WR7 the week prior, Tee Higgins ended week 7 with 7 targets, 7 receptions, and 77 total yards. This was good enough to see him rank as WR27 on the week, so if these trends continue, expect Tee to score roughly 300 fantasy points against the Browns as he hauls in all 27 of his targets for 2,727-yards…but still no touchdowns. Jokes aside, this was an excellent overall performance from Higgins in a matchup where Joe Burrow never really got it going against a relatively resilient Giants pass-defense. Two rushing touchdowns either side of a Tyrone Tracy score for New York, was enough to see Cincinnati squeak past the G-Men on Prime Time and move to 2-4 on the year. Joey B and co are on the road once again this weekend, this time in an all-Ohio affair as the Bengals make the short trip in-state to take on the hapless Browns. Expect the entire Bengals offense to perform much better against their near neighbours and stroll out comfortable victors – with Higgins being nearly $2,000 cheaper than Ja’Marr Chase, he’s the pass-catcher I am targeting in this one.
JuJu Smith-Schuster @SF ($4,000)
After starting the season as the WR118, WR172, WR43 and WR169 – everybody saw the JuJu Smith-Schuster WR12 finish coming in week 5 right? JuJu led the Chiefs wide receivers in targets, receptions and yards in Kansas City’s 26-13 victory over the Saints last time out before their week 6 bye. With Rashee Rice done for the year, someone has to step up in this offense and be Patrick Mahomes’ #1 target – why not JuJu? Travis Kelce has expectedly seen an uptick in targets, but he can’t stretch the field like Smith-Schuster can – so expect Mahomes to continue to lean on any wideout who is catching the ball, and right now…that’s JuJu. Hauling in 7-of-8 targets against New Orleans will do his chances of being the lead receiver on this offense the world of good – he’s only $4,000 – this is a no brainer.
Also consider: Drake London v SEA ($6,900), Terry McLaurin v CAR ($6,800) & Christian Watson v HOU ($4,900)
George Kittle v KC ($6,000)
I am spending up at TE this week! Travis Kelce is the top priced option on the slate, but I prefer the man lining up on the opposite side of the field from him – the San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle. After missing San Fran’s week 3 loss at SoFi through injury, Kittle has finished as the TE4, TE3 and TE2 in the weeks that have followed…we all know where this is going right? Kittle is the TE1 on the year despite the missed week, and has only failed to find the endzone once all season – the week one victory over the Jets. This passing offense is back to full strength with Aiyuk and Samuel both fully healthy – the 49ers are single point favourites with an O/U of 47 points and will be out for revenge after the defeat in Super Bowl LVIII – as will their tight end…oh did I mention KC rank dead last against the position? Get him in your lineup anyway you can.
Brock Bowers @LAR ($5,800)
If you really don’t want to pay a full $6,000 for a tight end, then you can save a couple of hundred bucks and elect instead for the Las Vegas Raiders’ Brock Bowers. The rookie sits as the overall TE2 on the year and saw double digit targets for the second week in a row in the Raiders’ loss to Pittsburgh last weekend. This offense may not be clicking on all cylinders, but Bowers is a bonafide stud. He leads the team in targets, receptions and yards – and boats a colossal 206 YAC on his 37 grabs. Brock is still a great play even if Jakobi Meyers is back in the starting lineup after recovering from an ankle injury. The Rams rank 31st against tight ends on the year – he is the only guy I can see outsourcing Kittle at the position this week – if you really wanna be contrarian, why not roster them both.
Also consider: Dalton Schultz @GB ($4,200) & Zach Ertz v CAR ($3,900)
Buffalo Bills v TEN ($3,500)
No team has passed for fewer yards than the Tennessee Titans – with Will Levis averaging just 139.8 yards through the air in their opening five contests. Whilst they may not be at quite the same level as the Cleveland Browns (more on them shortly), the Titans’ O-Line have allowed Levis to be sacked 16 times over the first third of the season, just over three per week. The Bills’ are far from being a formidable defensive unit – but with multiple sacks almost a guarantee, as well as a high likelihood of an interception or two, they are a solid play at the DST position this week.
Cincinnati Bengals @CLE ($3,300)
Ok, as promised – back to Cleveland. The Browns are bad, historically bad. They are the only team not to score at least 20 points in any of their games so far on the year and are 0-for-26 in their last 26 third down attempts with Watson under center. There are dozens of statistical anomalies appearing on Twitter every day highlighting just how rotten this offense truly is – with my favourite being that since the year 2000, this current Browns team ranks 784th out of 798th in trips to the red zone…then of course we have the league leading 31 sacks allowed so far. Forget what I said above about the Bills, just roster the Bengals at $3,300…please.
