DraftKings FNF Showdown 2024 – Green Bay @Philadelphia

Start the 2024 season playing the DraftKings showdown slates- with the first International Game for the season, Green Bay @Philadelphia. This is the first international series game of the season, and will be the first game to be played in Brazil. The game has a decent O/U of around 50 points, with the Eagles favored by a FG. The key to this slate will be getting the right combination of Packers receivers.

DraftKings FNF Showdown 2024 – Green Bay @Philadelphia Captain Picks

A.J. Brown ($16,500 Capt/ $11,000 Flex)

Brown is one of the most elite receivers in the league. With the other players on this slate, and his pricing, this might be a low-owned CPT slate for him. Brown has the ability to overcome any coverage that he is given, with his size and route-running ability. The days of the Eagles running the Brotherly Shove might be behind them too. If that is the case, he could see more looks in the redzone too.

Jalen Hurts ($15,900 Capt/ $10,600 Flex)

Hurts is a fantastic dual-threat QB, with weapons all over the field. He can struggle at times with his ball placement, but the ability of his receivers covers that. One thing that will put some of the field off is that his rushing upside feels a little capped to start the season. The addition of Saquon Barkley gives the Eagles a true rushing threat in the backfield. The loss of Jason Kelce in the offensive line could mean the Brotherly-Shove doesn’t work as well as it did last year. But, Hurts has great ability in his legs. He can also be played solo (i.e. not need a stacking play with him)

Jordan Love ($14,700 Capt/ $9,800 Flex)

Love ended up showing the signs that he can be the next long-term QB for the Packers. Able to throw the ball accurately around the field, and was able to rush the ball effectively too. Has all of his receiving weapons returning too. The Eagles secondary struggled last season, and could need some time to bed in the changes that they made during the offseason. Having Love as a CPT play also gives you a little bit less of a headache on who the Packers receiver is that hits. Although I’d prefer to go with Love as a flex and a rotation of WR options at CPT instead.

Josh Jacobs ($12,300 Capt/ $8,200 Flex)

Jacobs is going to be lead back for the Packers and is going to see plenty of volume here. The offense doesn’t really have too much competition out of the backfield, with AJ Dillon on IR and rookie MarShawn Lloyd spending time on the treatment table due to a hamstring injury. The Eagles are also looking like they are going to be without Devin White for this game- meaning he could find some space up the middle of the field.

Jayden Reed & Christian Watson ($9,600 Capt/ $6,400 Flex & $8,400 Capt/ $5,600 Flex)

The Eagles secondary was able to be torched last season. They have made improvements, but there is probably still an opportunity here to expose that with a Packers receiver. The issue on this slate is knowing who is going to be the receiver that gets the ball- but that has been factored into the pricing here. Selecting one of them also gives you a lot to play with with flex options.

Reed led the team last year in receptions, yards, and was tied for TDs. When he was pushed, Love looked to Reed to make a play and I don’t know if we see that change too much here. As a result, Reed probably has the safest floor of the Packers receivers.

Watson is the boom-or-bust Packers CPT option. When he is healthy, he can take the top off of pretty much any secondary. This Eagles unit was torched last season too, so this could be a matchup made in heaven. Or, we could see him struggle with an injury or dud out downfield.

DraftKings FNF Showdown 2024 – Green Bay @Philadelphia Flex Picks

Saquon Barkley ($9,400 Flex)

Barkely finally gets put into an offense that can’t just focus on stopping him. Whether that leads to fantasy success is unknown though. I could see the Eagles looking to feature Barkley in the offense (and redzone) to try and get him rolling. But, I could equally see the Eagles limiting his touches a little with Hurts already taking out a number of rush attempts, and their receivers taking a number of targets too. Might be a sneaky CPT play, but I prefer him as a flex.

DeVonta Smith ($9,000 Flex)

Smith is one of the best secondary receivers in the league (maybe the best). With the Packers secondary being what it is, they are likely to use Jaire Alexander to shadow Brown- leaving Smith to face secondary coverage. With space, Smith could have a big game. Smith started the season strongly last year, and will be looking to do the same on the way to another 1,000+ season. You could put Smith and Brown in the same lineup, and hope the Eagles just air the ball out, but the pricing hurts that.

Romeo Doubs ($6,800 Flex)

In the debate of who is the leading receiver for the Packers, Doubs feels like he is a little bit of the odd man out. Led the team in targets last season and tied first for TDs. The issue is for him, that he was a streaky receiver, and would quite often be disappointing for fantasy unless he found the endzone. The talk out of camp is that Doubs has improved his connection with Love. But camp isn’t the regular season. As a result, he would fall out of CPT consideration. But, if you wanted to go heavy Packers lineups, he could be a decent flex against this Eagles secondary.

Dallas Goedert ($5,800 Flex)

Goedert has been a decent third receiver for the Eagles, but has missed plenty of time in his career through injury. But, to start the season at least he is off the injury report and should be able to suit up to start in this one. Should be able to get around 5 targets in the offense. If the offense are forced to throw it in the redzone too, Goedert’s big body give him a good opportunity.

Luke Musgrave ($4,600 Flex)

Musgrave was starting to put things together in his rookie season before he was put on IR just after the midpoint of the season. Had an important role in the playoff win over the Cowboys last season, with 3 receptions for 52 yards and a score. Should be a redzone weapon for the offense. Could clock up a decent number of checkdowns from Love if the Eagles are able to get pressure on the pocket.

Jahan Dotson ($3,200 Flex)

Dotson was acquired by the Eagles during the offseason for a late-round pick. Dotson figures to step into the WR3 role on the offense- but working on the outside with Smith working in the slot. That’s a role that he should be able to excel in. In his time with Washington, he was an inconsistent performer (which could be due to the QB play he had) but he was an effective redzone weapon. The pricing gives him the opportunity to succeed here. But, there really isn’t much of a floor with the target competition on the roster.

Dart Throw Plays (Various)

Instead of writing up a line for a few options with their own sections, thought I’d list out a few in one area. Not really worth considering these as core plays, only in GPPs:

  • Dontayvion Wicks (WR, GB) $5,400 Flex – Wicks role in the offense was to spell whichever receiver was on the sidelines, with only two games where he had over 70% of the offensive snaps. GPP option, as he has speed and can make a play- but more likely to dud that pay off unless there is an injury.
  • Kenneth Gainwell/ Will Shipley (RB, PHI) $3,400/ $2,000 Flex – The Eagles have historically shown that they are happy to rotate through RBs- especially in the redzone. Starter Barkley is the best RB that the Eagles have had for years though, and should be able to deal with the starters workload out of the backfield. As a result, these only really have value if Barkley were to go down with an injury. Of the two, I’d opt for Gainwell, who gets targets in the rotation anyway- but I’d really limit exposure to them both.
  • MarShawn Lloyd/ Emanuel Wilson (RB, GB) $3,000/ $2,400 Flex – The Packers backfield is essentially Jacobs, with little behind him on the depth chart. Lloyd missed time in camp with a hamstring injury, and Wilson is a game-time decision. Both of them feel like a risk, and you’ll be hoping they find the endzone on their minimal workload.
  • Tucker Kraft (TE, GB) $2,800 Flex – Kraft is going to be the TE2 behind Musgrave, and has shown a good relationship with Love in the past. The question will be if he is unable to find the endzone what is his floor? With the number of targets on offense, it is extremely low.
  • Bo Melton/ Malik Heath (WR, GB) $1,200/ $600 Flex – Both have shown their ability to make plays, and looked good in preseason. But, with the number of receiving options the team has, you are looking at a flash on a single target- or a zero.
  • Grant Calcaterra (TE, PHI) $1,000 Flex – Calcaterra is the TE2 on the roster. Not really going to see much of the field, but he could find the endzone on a random play. Just consider there is little floor here- and not too much of a ceiling either. That is unless Goedert were to go down.

DraftKings FNF Showdown 2024 – Green Bay @Philadelphia Kickers and DSTs

These international games quite often come down to how the kickers perform. With the stadiums causing the offense a whole lot of issues converting drives. The Eagles have a great kicker in Jake Elliott ($5,000). Finished last season with 30 FGs from 32 attempts, and only missed one of his 46 PAT attempts last season. He also had a long of 61-yards, so has the ability to kick it from deep. The Packers struggled decided to part ways with their kicker in the offseason. That has allowed rookie Brayden Narveson ($4,400) an opportunity. He has missed a number of FG attempts in college, so honestly, I’m not going to hold out too much hope in his NFL debut in a different country. But stranger things have happened.

The Eagles DST ($4,000) struggled last season to hit the highs of previous seasons, and looks different this season after losing some veteran pieces like Fletcher Cox. If the team are able to bring some pressure up front, that should help their secondary that struggled last season. In an international game, where defenses can thrive, I like the team at the price. The Packers DST ($3,600) have brought back near enough their full defense from last year- but have managed to add to it in their secondary with Xavier McKinney and through the draft. The Eagles offense is among the best in the league. But they have allowed Hurts to be sacked- 36 last season. If they can generate some pressure up-front, they do have the playmakers to score- including returner Keisean Nixon. Nice GPP play at the price.
