DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Cincinnati @Jacksonville

Finishing Week 13 of the 2023 season it’s the DraftKings showdown slate- Cincinnati @Jacksonville. This game would have been alot better if Joe Burrow wasn’t on IR, and that’s shown in the line that has been drawn. The Jaguars are a 10-point favorite, with the O/U set at 40. If Browning is able to improve on last week, we could have a game. Otherwise, this could get ugly quickly.

DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Cincinnati @Jacksonville Captain Picks

Trevor Lawrence ($16,200 Capt/ $10,800 Flex)

Lawrence feels like the best play on the slate. Has been great the past few weeks, with one 300+ game, 3TDs and 1 INT in this last two games. When you then throw in the way that he has been used at the goal-line, with 3 TDs in his last two games too, Lawrence has a great ceiling (and floor) in this matchup

Ja’Marr Chase ($14,100 Capt/ $9,400 Flex)

Chase didn’t have a great game against the Steelers last time out. But still managed to catch four passes for 81 yards. Browning being his QB will keep his ownership lower than normal, but Chase is a playmaker. Get the ball in his hands, and he can produce in this matchup. Nice pivot from the Jaguars pieces.

Christian Kirk ($12,300 Capt/ $8,200 Flex)

Kirk is a very nice play at this price. Kirk is the leading receiver in targets, and yards for the team and second in TDs. Had a nice outing last week against Houston catching 4 passes for 89 yards and nearly got into the endzone for the first time in 4 games. Leaves alot on the table for your flex positions too.

DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Cincinnati @Jacksonville Flex Picks

Travis Etienne ($10,200 Flex)

Etienne is a little bit of an injury scare heading into this one with a chest injury. But, the current expectation is that he will be able to play and get his normal workload. With Lawrence getting more involved in the redzone, he hasn’t scored in his last three games (and even in that fourth game, he caught a TD). Gets a decent number of checkdowns. So can rack up points with DK’s PPR scoring, but at the moment feels like he lacks ceiling here.

Calvin Ridley ($9,200 Flex)

Ridley has now had back-to-back impressive games, with a combined 12 catches for 192 yards and 3 scores. The offense has circled to him recently. But think that he is due for some regression- which is why I like Kirk as a CPT play. But, Ridley has a great ceiling if he continues his hot recent form.

Jake Browning ($8,800 Flex)

Browning’s debut against the Steelers wasn’t great, but it wasn’t awful. Ended up with 227 yards for a single score and a single TD. The Jaguars defense isn’t one to be massively concerned about either, so I think he could be a decent flex play on the slate. Higgins is set to return this week too. If Browning hits, it’ll be with Chase or Higgins dragging him to victory, so get a stack together.

Tee Higgins ($7,600 Flex)

Higgins looks like he is going to be returning in this one after missing some time with injury. This is an absolute GPP shot, as we have no idea how he is going to be able to play- or his relationship with Browning.

Joe Mixon ($7,000 Flex)

Mixon didn’t manage to do too much last week with Browning leading the offense, but he did get a few checkdowns. Not sure he has a great ceiling in this game, with his limited workload in the redzone, but that is factored into his pricing.

Evan Engram ($6,200 Flex)

Engram is a smash at this price. The Bengals give up plenty to the position, and Engram is in that TE bracket where his usage puts him closer to a WR. With alot of the other TE options for the Jaguars injured he shouldn’t be off the field too much here. Love him in a stack with Lawrence.

Tyler Boyd ($5,600 Flex)

Boyd didn’t have much of a game last week, catching just 3 passes for 23 yards, but that doesn’t feel quite right. Boyd should be a big target for Browning, given that he operates near the line of scrimmage. The concerns will be his production last week, and the return of Higgins. At this price, he is a great play as a flex (and potentially a sneaky CPT option).

Dart Throw Plays (Various)

Instead of writing up a line for a few options with their own sections, thought I’d list out a few in one area.

  • Zay Jones (WR, JAX) $5,200 Flex – Since returning from injury, Jones has seen limited opportunities, with just 5 receptions for 30 yards in two games. Although he is the WR3 on the depth chart he is the fourth receiver with Engram’s usage.
  • D’Ernest Johnson (RB, JAX) $4,200 Flex – Johnson is priced up here, after he was forced to stand in for Etienne after his chest injury. A dart throw as there isn’t much usage if Etienne is fine to go.
  • Tanner Hudson (TE, CIN) $4,000 Flex – Hudson has taken the starting TE role for the Bengals, as a result, he is on the field for a massive amount of the snaps. But, with the number of pass-catchers in this offense, there isn’t much of a floor here. You likely need him to fall into the endzone to hit value here.
  • Luke Farrell (TE, JAX) $2,600 Flex – appeared on the injury report with a toe injury, but should be able to suit up here. Has been involved in the last two weeks, with 7 targets, so don’t mind a punt with the Bengals struggling to defend the position this season.
  • Tank Bigsby (RB, JAX) $2,200 Flex – RB3 for the team, with Johnson looking like he is the backup to Etienne. Had some TDs to start the season, so could hit again, but you really have no floor here.
  • Trenton Irwin (WR, CIN) $1,800 Flex – Higgins looks like he is set to return, which means Irwin is relegated to being a WR4 for the team. When that has happened, he has only had one or two targets, so not much to hold onto here.
  • Drew Sample/ Irv Smith Jr. (TE, CIN) $1,200/ $1,000 Flex – Sample caught a TD last week, but has mainly been used for blocking. Can’t see it paying off here at this price. Smith is a bit of a forgotten man now, 3rd on the depth chart and not seeing much of the ball at all.

My favorite play from the above is……no one. I don’t really have one that seems like they are better than the other when you consider their price tags. If pushed I’d go Hudson. But I don’t feel great about it.

DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Cincinnati @Jacksonville Kickers and DSTs

Not massively sold on the defenses here. The Jaguars DST ($4,800) are going to be a popular play on the slate, given that Browning is throwing the ball. But, while the Jaguars have some playmakers, it’s a play against Browning that a pro-Jags play- always a dangerous game. The Bengals DST ($3,200) on the other hand have playmakers and could force Lawrence into some sacks and turnovers. The thing is though, they have been giving up lots of points this season, so you need their playmakers to step up here.

Brandon McManus ($5,000) has been great recently, with 23 of 26 FGs made this season, but he has only missed one kick from his last 19 attempts (which was a 50+ attempt). Has double-digit scoring in 3 of his last four games. Solid floor at the price- and should be a good value. Evan McPherson ($4,600) feels like he is pretty binary here. He will hit value if Browning is able to move the ball somewhat effectively, if he isn’t- then it will be a struggle for him to have attempts in FG range.
