Finishing Week 5 the 2023 DraftKings showdown slate- Green Bay @Las Vegas. The narrative in the game is going to be Adams facing the Packers in his first game since he left. Both defenses have given up plenty of points this season, so could see th O/U of 44.5 beaten. The Packers are favored by less than a FG in this one.
DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Green Bay @Las Vegas Captain Picks
Davante Adams ($16,800 Capt/ $11,200 Flex)
The return of Adams. Well, not quite the return, as it’s being played in Las Vegas, you know what I mean. Not sure on his overall health, but he is going to play here. Has massive upside as he could have a statement game where he catches multiple TDs. Equally, with his target share, has a safe floor- even if he isn’t 100%.
Josh Jacobs ($15,900 Capt/ $10,600 Flex)
Jacobs had a big game last week, as the team moved the offense away from the passing game without Jimmy G. This is another game that he should have a big performance in, with the Packers long struggling to defend the position. Feels like the safer CPT selection, but not a massive difference between him and Adams.
Romeo Doubs ($12,300 Capt/ $8,200 Flex)
Lead receiver for the Packers. Leading the team in targets, receptions, yards and TDs. Part of that will be the fact Christian Watson missed the first 3 games of the season. But Doubs seems like he is the possession receiver for the Packers. Should have a solid floor with his target share in the offense. If he manages to score, then he has a good shot of being the highest-scoring Packer on the slate.
DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Green Bay @Las Vegas Flex Picks
Aaron Jones ($10,000 Flex)
Jones is likely to play here, but what he manages to get done is the question. The price-tag feels extremely high given how he has played this season. Missed two games with injury, but in the games he played hasn’t had more than 41 yards on the ground and only scored TDs in one game. **UPDATE: JONES HAS BEEN RULED OUT**
Jordan Love ($9,800 Flex)
Love has been decent to start his starting QB career for the Packers. Didn’t have a great time against Detroit, with multiple turnovers. But other than that the start of the season has been positive. Has great passing volume which should help him with a decent score. Has rushing upside too, finding the endzone on the ground in each of his last two games.
Jimmy Garoppolo ($9,400 Flex)
Garoppolo was forced to miss last week, but comes back in a game that should be a nice welcome back. Has 2 games with multiple TDs and his last game he threw for over 300 yards. Thing is, without the rushing threat, needs the players around him to perform. Should be fine in the flex, just know you need to stack him with a number of his receivers.
Christian Watson ($7,800 Flex)
Watson saw a limited snap count in his first game back from an injury that held him out of the first 3 weeks of the season. Has the speed to really threaten his secondary, and can score with any reception he makes. Love is fine throwing the ball deep too. The lack of floor takes him out of CPT consideration for me, but in GPPs I’ll have some shares.
Jakobi Meyers ($7,000 Flex)
Meyers didn’t have a good game last time out, but that was a game without Jimmy G throwing the ball. In games he has played, he has been getting a healthy number of targets. Feels like he is in a smash spot with Adams going to get attention from star Packers CB Alexander. Don’t mind him as a sneaky CPT play in GPPs.
Jayden Reed ($6,200 Flex)
Wasn’t sure what was going to happen with Reed with the return of Watson in the offense. But, it looks like they can co-exist here. Reed has great speed, but hasn’t yet had a big yardage game, or scored since Week 2 (where he scored both of his season TDs). With his relationship with Love, a nice play on the slate at the price.
Luke Musgrave ($5,200 Flex)
Musgrave left the field early last week due to a concussion but should be fine to go here. Has been getting a decent target share in the offense. Yet to score though, which is something that could change against the Raiders. Safe floor, and nice ceiling- especially if he gets in the endzone.
AJ Dillon ($4,600 Flex)
Don’t know what to do with Dillon. Had the opportunity to get his season started when Jones was forced to miss some time with injury, and didn’t manage to do much. With his lack of involvement in the passing game though, hard to really feel good about him in this one. Would need to score his first TD of the season to hit value. With the return of Aaron Jones, it’s hard to see that happening. **UPDATE: Slightly more interesting with Jones inactive for tonight. GPP play, as even when he has had volume this season he hasn’t been overly efficient**
Zamir White ($3,200 Flex)
White is the backup for Jacobs. But there really isn’t much left on the table after Jacobs has had his touches. Doesn’t really get any targets either. Would need an injury to Jacobs to make him close to being valuable here.
Hunter Renfrow ($2,200 Flex)
Want to see what changing a QB can do? Look at Renfrow. Used to be a PPR monster with Derek Carr, and now had a season-high of 4 targets in the last game (without Jimmy G). And only got 3 total targets in the 3 games he has played with Garoppolo. Cheap, and the PPR scoring helps, but doesn’t feel very safe at all on the slate.
Dontayvion Wicks ($200 Flex)
Wicks deserves a longer write-up than a dart throw. Saw decent usage when Watson wasn’t in the team, and didn’t see a target in the blowout loss against Detroit. Still managed to be on the field for a chunk of the offensive snaps. At min-price, needs to do next to nothing to hit value here. Leaves plenty on the table to spend up elsewhere too.
Dart Throw Plays (Various)
Instead of writing up a line for a few options with their own sections, thought I’d list out a few in one area. Not really worth considering these as core plays, only in multi-entry GPPs:
- Josiah Deguara (TE, GB) $1,800 Flex – backup TE. Only really seen any action this season when Musgrave was out. No way I’m paying up here.
- Samori Toure (WR, GB) $1,400 Flex – Boom or bust option as an alternative to Watson. But in this offense he feels like the odd-man out, and only going to hit value if he gets into the endzone.
- Ameer Abdullah (RB, LV) $1,000 Flex – literally getting no carries in the offense, but getting a handful of targets each week. If he breaks one off for a long gain, like he can he will be a great value. More likely to finish with 2-3 points.
- Austin Hooper (TE, LV) $600 Flex – on the field constantly, but not getting many looks in the offense. Only four receptions on the season from 5 targets. If he falls into the endzone for the first since Week 11 of last year (where he scored his only 2 TDs of the 2022 season!) hits value but don’t see it happening here.
- Michael Mayer (TE, LV) $200 Flex – Mayer has been working as the TE2 for the Raiders, with only two targets and a single reception this season.
My favored play from the above is Toure. But I really don’t like any of these.
DraftKings MNF Showdown 2023 – Green Bay @Las Vegas Kickers and DSTs
The kickers are in play, but I’m not as happy with them as I have been in other slates. Daniel Carlson ($4,200) is a great kicker. Hasn’t missed this season. Infact his last missed kick was back in Week 13 of the previous season (a 52-yard attempt that was blocked). Just isn’t getting many attempts this year, with only 4 attempts over the opening 4 games. Can boom is from distance, but could struggle with attempts. Same with Anders Carlson ($4,000). Hit everything, but only has 5 attempts from the opening 4 games. The Raiders defense isn’t great, so could see the Packers punch in more often than not if they get downfield.
The defense aren’t any more tempting. The Packers DST ($4,400) have been decent, at least with their pass-rush (11 sacks) and have forced 4 turnovers this season. But they have been leaching points though which hurts their appeal. Equally, the Raiders DST ($3,800) outside of Maxx Crosby aren’t scary. Only managed 7 sacks (4 from Crosby) and a single turnover. Another team giving up plenty of points too, so not alot of appeal here.
