We are back to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with New York @Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay have had a little bit of a downturn of performances, with a loss on either side of their Week 9 bye. Winning gives them a two-game lead in their division. While New York are at a make-or-break point of their season. Win and they still have a very faint chance of doing something this season, lose and it’s time to look to next year.
DraftKings NFL Showdown 2021- New York @Tampa Bay Captain Picks
Tom Brady ($16,800)
If there was ever a team Brady would want to be facing following two straight defeats, it’s the Giants. The New York side are responsible for 2 of his 3 Super Bowl losses, and he’ll be looking for a big bounce-back performance under the lights on MNF. No team is averaging more yards per play on offense than the Bucs’ 6.2, and I can’t see that slowing down tonight. With an implied team total of just over 30 points, it’s difficult to see a game tonight where TB12 doesn’t have a hand in at least a couple of scores.
Leonard Fournette ($15,000)
Another pricey option in the captain spot, but one that is totally worth paying up for. Lenny accounts for 31% of Tampa Bay’s redzone looks, with 25 carries and 7 targets inside the 20. He’s got the shortest odds of anyone on this slate to score a TD tonight, and I would be shocked if he doesn’t hit paydirt. If Tampa leads this game by the double-digit margin the spread suggests, Fournette should get plenty of touches in the ground game. Even if the Bucs are trailing, he will probably still be involved in the passing game, as we saw last week with his 45 yards on 8 catches.
Kadarius Toney ($10,200)
Plenty of eyebrows were raised back in April when New York took Toney with the 20th pick of the 2021 Draft, with other positions of need overlooked. He had a rough few weeks to start the year, averaging 1.8 DKPTS across the first 3 weeks. He exploded in Week 5 however, posting 10-189 on 13 targets away to Dallas, putting up a season-high 32.6 DKPTS. It doesn’t look like he’ll quite hit that ceiling again any time soon, but he’s certainly a great option tonight. With Golladay back as well, Toney has a great matchup versus a porous Bucs secondary. Look for some more gadget plays featuring Toney tonight.
DraftKings NFL Showdown 2021- New York @Tampa Bay Flex Picks
Daniel Jones ($9,600)
On paper, it looks like Jones had a disappointing game last week versus Las Vegas, posting just 9.1 DKPTS from 110 passing yards a score, with 17 yards on the ground. However, New York played almost the entirety of the second half with a lead, thanks to a Xavier McKinney pick-six on the third play of the second half. As a result, Booker and Penny saw the bulk of the work. Conversely, the volume should be there tonight for Danny Dimes tonight, and I’m quietly confident in his ability to put up a nice score tonight. Only Booker and Barkley have actually seen more redzone looks, with Jones’ 9 rushes putting him 3rd on the team, with 13% of their redzone touches. It’s perfectly viable that he has a couple of big rushes a couple of passing or rushing scores tonight.
Chris Godwin ($9,400)
I feel like I always pick the wrong Bucs receiver on showdown slates, and this week I’m siding with Godwin. Evans seems to have slowed down in recent weeks, with Godwin seeing 31 targets to Evans’ 23 in their last 3 games. Especially at the discount, you’re getting, Godwin is my favourite of the two, although he will likely be incredibly popular. He leads the team with 19 redzone targets, converting those into 13 catches and 4 TDs.
Kenny Golladay ($7,000)
Injuries have prevented Golladay from being the star wideout the Giants picked up in free agency over the summer, but you can’t deny that the talent is there. After picking up an injury in Week 5, he didn’t see the field again until Week 9 versus the Raiders, managing a meagre 2 catches for 28 yards. Again, given the volume that should be there tonight in the passing game, versus a side giving up the 8th-most passing yards per game (254.2), Golladay could be a sneaky pivot off of Toney.
Darius Slayton ($3,200)
Despite only seeing 3 targets in their last 2 games, Slayton’s price makes him a very attractive option on tonight’s slate. He actually saw the most snaps of any Giants wideout in Weeks 7 (61%) and 8 (87%), and tied for the most in Week 9 (55%). Again, I’m negating last week’s fantasy performances due to the game script of the second half, but in a game where the spread seems to suggest Jones airing it out a lot, Slayton makes for a great play at his discounted price.
Giovani Bernard ($1,800)
Another discounted piece tonight, who looks to have become the RB2 in this Bucs offence, out-snapping Ronald Jones II 29%-2% last week, and 21%-15% in Week 8 prior to their bye. With PPR scoring on DraftKings, a couple of catches could go a long way for Bernard. A healthy Bucs lead would also see him given a nice amount of touches on the ground.
Scotty Miller ($200)
At the time of writing, it’s still not confirmed if Miller has been activated off IR for this one. If he does end up getting activated before the 3 pm EST (I think?) deadline, he should slot straight back into the WR3 role with Antonio Brown ruled out. He’s definitely a GPP flyer but should run at least double-digit routes with a couple of targets.
DraftKings Showdown 2021- New York @Tampa Bay Defences/Kickers
I’m not really interested in either defence tonight. Tampa Bay are priced right up at $5,200, and I can’t see the Giants D having much success versus Brady and co. Both kickers are fine for cash games, as they should have a solid floor in a high-scoring matchup, although neither are likely to be in the optimal line-up.
