Continuing with our DraftKings showdown slates in 2020, we bring you Denver @Kansas City. Let’s be honest, the last two weeks has been a rollercoaster for Broncos’ fans. Kendall Hinton’s name will go down in Broncos folklore for years to come – the outcome of last Sunday, probably less so. Last Sunday’s QB situation in Denver epitomised the entire COVID-hit season of 2020. Thankfully for Denver, Drew Lock returns this weekend, although he faces a stern test against the ever-improving Chiefs defence, with Kansas City currently 13.5 point favourites at home, with an O/U of 51.
Let’s take a look at some of my favourite plays on the 20:20 EST (1:20 GMT) SNF Showdown slate on DraftKings!

DraftKings Showdown 2020: Denver @Kansas City Captain Options
Travis Kelce ($16,200 Capt/ $10,800 Flex)
Kansas City showdown slates always seem to throw up the Hill/Kelce predicament. This week however, DraftKing’s pricing solves this problem, as Tyreek Hill has been priced up to $12,200 following his monster performance last week. He costs $2,100 more than Kelce in the Captain spot, and I believe that salary is better placed elsewhere on a slate that lacks a deep amount of value. At least one of KC’s star receivers goes off each week, and this week I’m putting my money on Kelce.
Drew Lock ($13,800 Capt/ $9,200 Flex)
Hear me out on this one. In a game where Denver are currently 13.5 point underdogs, they are going to have to throw the ball a ton to stay in the game. In fact, Lock has actually thrown at least 40 passes in four of his last five starts, so the volume will definitely be there for the 2019 second-round pick out of Missouri. He also provides some rushing upside, a factor I always like to consider on showdown slates. Whilst he only scored 14.96 DKFP in their Week 7 matchup, the Chiefs are currently allowing the seventh most DKFP to opposing QBs this season, a factor which must be considered. For this reason, I do quite like the suggestion of locking Lock into the Captain spot in larger-field GPPs.
Le’veon Bell ($3,600 Capt/ $2,400 Flex)
At the time of writing, Clyde Edwards-Helaire in currently listed as questionable for Sunday Night’s matchup. If CEH ends up sitting this one out, Bell provides incredible value at his low price. Denver currently rank 27th in rushing yards allowed per game, and with a game script heavily tilted in Kansas City’s favour, they may run the ball a lot, especially by the second half. Should CEH be active, I like him, but just not in the Captain spot, given his much larger salary.
KJ Hamler ($2,700 Capt/ $1,800 Flex)
On a slate where fading a QB or one of his top two receivers could be disastrous, KJ Hamler provides a very intriguing option in the Captain spot. I can’t quite understand how DraftKings have dropped his price from $4,400 to $1,800. Whilst he did log an awful -0.8 points last week, it didn’t help that his QB completed one of nine attempts. With Drew Lock back, and looking like he could throw 40+ attempts, Hamler figures to see a fair bit of action. He’s seen 26 targets over Lock’s last three starts, so the upside is definitely there.
DraftKings Showdown 2020: Denver @Kansas City Flex Options
Patrick Mahomes ($13,200 Flex)
11 games. 3,497 yards. 30 TDs. 2 INTs. 28.7 FPPG. Need I say more?
Chiefs DST ($6,400 Flex)
When an opposition QB looks to be heading to 40+ passing attempts in a game, the defence he is facing see a huge uptick in turnover potential. Denver’s offense is straight-up terrible. 19.5% of their drives result in a turnover; they have an average drive length of 2:20; they average 5.4 plays per drive; 26.6 yards per drive, and 1.58 points per drive, all of which rank in the bottom two in the league. They also have the third-worst 3rd Down Conversion Percentage and Red Zone percentage, at 36.1% and 48.3% respectively. All of these stats point towards a strong outing for the Chiefs Defence.
Noah Fant ($5,000 Flex)
I know I just hammered into the inefficient and lacklustre Broncos offense, but I believe Fant certainly offers value at $5,000. Over the past two weeks, the Chiefs have surrendered over 240 yards and 2 TDs to opposing TEs. Yes, two of those TEs happened to be Gronk and Waller, but I believe Fant offers tremendous value here, and really only needs a TD and a handful of receptions to do well, given his low price.
Harrison Butker ($4,000 Flex)
Finally, I really like Butker in this matchup. The Broncos have given up the 7th most points to kickers this season, and in a game in which the Chiefs are heavily favoured, I can see Butker given the chance to score plenty of PATs, along with a handful of FGs. I’m not always keen on playing kickers on showdown slates, but I believe Butker has a solid floor in this matchup.
