DraftKings Showdown 2021 Denver @Kansas City

We are here to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with Denver @Kansas City. Andy Reid has won 19 out of the 22 times he has faced Denver. This doesn’t bode well for Denver, especially as the Chiefs are well rested coming off a bye. Vegas has the O/U at 47 and the Chiefs winning by 9.5 points. I have written about the Chiefs multiple times this season and they have let me down every time. As a result, I’m going contrarian today and picking Denver to win. The Broncos have a chance to make the playoffs and I doubt this 6-5 team is going to miss out on an opportunity to resurrect the organization. Denver has allowed the fewest red-zone visits this season, so their defense needs to come up big in this match. Now with that, let’s get into the picks.

DraftKings Showdown- Denver @Kansas City Captain Picks

Tyreek Hill ($16,200 Capt/ $10,800 Flex)

If the Chiefs can get it going against the stingy Denver defense, Hill will be a must play. He carries a 26.2% target share and sees plenty of targets in the redzone. Normally, Hill’s numbers drop significantly when he plays Denver, but that shouldn’t be much of concern on this slate. We have limited options so we want the guys that will score the most points even if they won’t reach their average numbers. I like Hill in the captain spot for his big play potential and we are getting him at a discount. Fresh off a bye with two weeks to prepare for Denver, the Chiefs had plenty of time to find holes in the defense to get Hill open. Load him up and hope for the cheetah to catch a few long bombs.

Javonte Williams ($11,400 Capt/ $7,600 Flex)

The rookie finally has the backfield to himself and is scheduled to start in this game. The Chiefs have a terrible run defense and allow 111.6 yards per game. Williams has been pretty impressive with what he has done in his first year. However, his ceiling has been capped by Melvin Gordon stealing touches. Now that he is out of the mix he should exceed his season high of touches. Denver will do their best to keep the ball from Patrick Mahomes and crew, meaning plenty of usage from Williams. I love how cheap he is and it allows you to stick in studs like Mahomes and Hill in your flex spot without risking playing scrub players.

DraftKings Showdown- Denver @Kansas City Flex

Patrick Mahomes ($12,400 Flex)

Mahomes is a phenomenal player that has the ceiling to take down any tournament. He has been talking about improving his third down efficiency and finally has a pulse on what opposing defenses are doing to stop him. I expect him to come out of the bye fired up ready to show the league he has found the solution against the defensive scheme robber. If you do put Mahomes in your lineup be sure to pair him with one of his pass catchers for the correlation.

Travis Kelce ($10,000 Flex)

Travis Kelce averages 90.4 receiving yards against Denver. This could be his nag for finding soft spots in the zone and being a safety net for his quarterback against a tough defense. Just like Hill, I think he is too cheap. I plan to go four Denver and two Kansas City players in my lineup. Kelce will definitely be in consideration. The only thing holding me back from making him a lock is his inability to find the end zone this season. Yes he has five receiving touchdowns and a weird rushing touchdown but I would expect more from him in an offense with Patrick Mahomes. Kelce is definitely in play but I have a feeling he won’t generate enough points for his salary.

Jerry Jeudy ($7,200 Flex)

Now that he is back from his injury, the team has been using him to keep defenses off balance. He has been put in motion on many of his snaps leaving defenders to make audibles reducing reaction time. This leads to big play potential. Normally Jeudy wouldn’t be considered a daily fantasy option but he’s playing the Chiefs, who are known for playing in shoot outs. Also we have limited options, so he grades out to be a good pick.

Courtland Sutton ($6,800 Flex)

Courtland Sutton leads the team in receiving yards and holds 19.1% target share. In the red-zone his target share is even higher at 19.6%. I expect Denver to look to get Sutton going in the game plan after his last lack luster outing. Sutton historically seems to over perform in his games against the Chiefs. Also he is decently priced for you to squeeze in a few studs to round out your lineup.

Darrel Williams ($2,000 Flex)

Clyde at the moment is listed as questionable. Williams has shown in the past that he is capable of carrying the workload. The Chiefs could sit Clyde or reduce his touches which will open up the door for Williams. Also we could go into this game with no update on Clyde’s injury possibly getting Williams at low ownership. At his price and the potential workload, I will have him in a few of my lineups.
