We are here to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with Minnesota @Green Bay. This game could get ugly quickly. The hosts are around a 2 TD underdog with an O/U of 42.5 points. The reason being that the Vikings are going to be rolling out Sean Mannion at QB for the game. So don’t there’s not alot of Vikings featured here. It’s going to be the case of mixing different combinations of Packers players, to try and get the right mix of players. There are going to be a number of Packers covered below, but that’s because it’s the only side to attack (in my opinion).
DraftKings Showdown- Minnesota @Green Bay Captain Picks
Davante Adams ($16,500 Capt/ $11,000 Flex)
Adams is the top option for tonight, due to his volume. The Vikings are not a good team at defending the WR position, giving up multiple big plays to the position and a league-high average of just under 44 DK points to the position. You don’t need me to tell you about how dominant Adams is through the air for the Packers. I’ll leave you with this fact. In his last three games against the Vikings he has caught 28 passes for 324 yards and 7 TDs. Yep. You read that right.
Dalvin Cook ($15,600 Capt/ $10,400)
If you are wanting to go with a Viking as your captain, it feels like it’s Cook or no-one. The Packers defense is not great against RBs, giving up just under 4.5 yards per attempt this season. When you mix in the fact that Cook has been going for just under 100 per game, he is likely to be leaned on by the offense.
DraftKings Showdown- Minnesota @Green Bay Flex
Aaron Rodgers ($11,200 Flex)
Rodgers is having a great season. The thing will be, do the Packers stop throwing the ball? Personally, I don’t think they will. Rodgers is in the mix for the MVP this season and has a good opportunity to have a big game against the Vikings defense. Even if the game does blow up, it’s likely that Rodgers would have already done what he needed to do.
Justin Jefferson ($10,800 Flex)
Jefferson has a chance of being viable due to volume. The thing is, the volume is likely to just be receptions and yards with the low implied total. That immediately caps his ceiling in this game. Being honest, I’m not likely to pay for him with that ceiling limited, but I might have one lineup with him in.
Sean Mannion ($6,000 Flex)
The selection of Ian Book for the Saints didn’t work. I fully accept that. The thing is that Mannion is again likely to be on a low percentage of rosters this week, and if he is able to stand and get the ball out quickly to the offensive players surrounding, he could benefit from their playmaking ability and have a good enough game. From his previous games, albeit a limited sample, he looked at short passes. And, at the cheap price you can get multiple players in higher up the slate.
Aaron Jones/ A.J. Dillon ($9,000/ $5,200 Flex)
I’ll cover both of these guys at the same time, because they feel very similar to me. The fact of the matter is that the Packers running backs are almost split in carries between the two. They are both given touches out of the backfield and are likely to be leaned upon to kill the clock and move the chains in a likely blowout. Jones’ receiving work gives him the upper hand with the scoring, but I would be fine with both in my lineups. Especially as Dillon has really made his impact in games the Packers have been leading comfortably.
Allen Lazard/ Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($7,000/ $6,400 Flex)
I promise I will cover some players separately, but it’s another combination of players with a similar feel about them. The two receivers have an opportunity to impress against this poor Vikings secondary. While Adams is likely to get the majority of the targets, these two are going to be mixed in too. Of the two, I’d go with Valdes-Scantling, who has a good target share in games he has played in and has been a deep threat. Even with his drops, that downfield ability means he only needs to connect with one pass and could hit value.
Green Bay Packers DST ($4,000)
The Packers defense are worth a look, given the home-field advantage and the relative unknown at QB for the Vikings. That’s not to take away from the fact that the Packers defense has been a solid fantasy unit this season. Their ability to pressurize the QB and force turnovers has been great, and with a less experienced QB in the pocket, that pressure could really hurt.
Mason Crosby ($3,600)
Crosby is a cheap option that is prime to hit value if the game falls the right way. The Packers are likely to be downfield often in this game, with their defense likely to get the pressure on the Vikings. That is going to lead to plenty of kicking opportunities, be that FGs or PATs. Another option that should get you those top options in your lineup.
Josiah Deguara ($3,000)
This is the punt option on the slate. Deguara hasn’t grabbed headlines with his performances this season, but he has been out on the field and is running routes. I’m not saying put him in your lineup everywhere, but I’m going to be putting him at least one lineup for the slate.
