DraftKings Showdown 2021- New York @Kansas City

We are here to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with New York @Kansas City. Saying Kansas City’s season so far has been disappointing would be an understatement. They’re currently sitting bottom of the AFC West at 3-4 and head back to Arrowhead Stadium following a 27-3 hammering from the Titans. Conversely, the Giants enter this off the back of an impressive win at home to Carolina and will look to continue the streak against an out of sorts Chiefs team. Kansas City are 10.5-point home favourites, whilst the O/U sits at 52. Hopefully this Chiefs offense manages to find its feet again, and we have a high scoring affair tonight!

DraftKings Showdown 2021- New York @Kansas City Captain Picks

Patrick Mahomes ($18,000)

I’m not bothered at all by Mahomes’ poor showing last week, even against a porous Titans defence. The Chiefs QB is a generational talent, and it was only a matter of time before he hit a bit of a blip. This Giants pass defence is hovering around league average, giving up 243 yards per game through the air, but they’ve struggled to get to the QB this year. The Chiefs O-line is by no means elite, but they should be able to hold their own in this one. I think Mahomes bounces back tonight in a big way under the lights.

Daniel Jones ($15,300)

I can’t say I would ever have predicted I’d be debating captaining Jones versus the Chiefs at the beginning of this season, but this Chiefs defence has been horrific so far. There were holes last season, but it feels like they’ve become exponentially worse. They’ve managed a mere 8 sacks through 7 games, and are 5th-worst in both passing yards, and rushing yards given up per game. If this game turns into a shootout, which any game featuring this Chiefs offence tends to, Danny Dimes could be forced to throw early. He also has a solid amount of rushing upside, and I think he has a really solid floor too, especially coming up against the side with the lowest sack percentage in the league.

Mecole Hardman ($7,200)

As always, on a slate with so many high-priced studs, a value pick at captain can certainly be a viable build. Hardman is currently 3rd on the team in target share percentage, seeing 16% of Mahomes’ throws. He’s the clear WR2 in this offense and with a team implied total of 31, he could certainly find the end zone tonight. He should see similar usage to New York’s lead receivers, but comes at a fraction of the cost.

DraftKings Showdown 2021- New York @Kansas City Flex Picks

Tyreek Hill ($11,000)

Hill is a potential slate breaker in any given matchup. He was held relatively in check last week by Tennessee, but still has games of 50.6 and 40.1 DKPTS so far this year. With Kelce struggling to have a true ceiling game so far this year, I’m leaning towards Hill in this one. He’s also seen the second-most red zone looks for the Chiefs so far this year.

Darrel Williams ($9,000)

Williams is solid play tonight, in what should be a positive game script for him. He was held to 20 yards on 5 carries last week, but the Chiefs were obviously trailing for the majority of that game. Should Kansas City storm out to a lead in this one, look for a repeat of his Week 6 performance, where he took 21 carries for 62 yards and a pair of TDs, as well as 3 catches for 27 yards through the air. Despite only really becoming the lead back following CEH’s injury in Week 5, Williams actually has the highest red zone usage rate on the team, with an impressive 22% of attempts and targets. Williams is in a great spot tonight.

Sterling Shepard/Kadarious Toney ($7,000/$6,800)

Both of these come into this with questionable tags. Should they both play, Shepard would certainly be the preferred option. Toney exploded in Week 5 with Shepard side-lined, but if he’s back tonight, I expect Shepard to remain as the WR1 in this offence. If Shepard sits, Toney looks to be in a smash spot versus this Chiefs defence. If they’re playing from behind, Jones will look their way a hell of a lot.

Byron Pringle ($2,200)

Pringle looks to be neck and neck with Demarcus Robinson for the WR3 role in this offense. He sits fourth on the team with a 9% target share and had 6 last week, reeling in 5 for 73 yards. Again, any receiver in this high-powered offense is often viable, and Pringle presents some nice salary relief on an expensive slate. DraftKings Showdown 2021- New York @ Kansas City Kickers/Defence

I’m not going to advocate playing either defence here, but if I absolutely had to choose, it would probably be New York ($2,800). It’s unlikely Mahomes and this Chiefs offense have another disaster-class, but I trust the Giants defence more than this torrid Chiefs defence. In a potentially high-scoring affair, both kickers are in play, although Butker ($4,000) looks set to get more opportunities.
