We are here to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with Pittsburgh @Los Angeles. The Steelers make their way to Los Angeles to face Justin Herbert and his arsenal of weapons. Vegas set the O/U to 47.5 with the Chargers winning by 6 points. Big Ben is coming back from COVID-19 protocols, Chase Claypool is back from injury and Ebron seems to be recovering. I predict this game to be a lot closer than Vegas thinks.
DraftKings Showdown- Pittsburgh @Los Angeles Captain Picks
Najee Harris ($17,700 Capt/ $11,800 Flex)
Harris has developed into a reliable source of offense for the Pittsburgh Steelers. His power running style has alleviated pressure off Ben Roethlisberger. He’s averaging over 80 rushing yards and over 35 receiving yards per game. The Chargers have the worst rushing defense in the league and give up 155 yards per game. Also, he leads the team with red zone attempts at 76%.
Mike Williams ($11,100 Capt/ $7,400 Flex)
Over the past three games, Mike Williams has only 10 catches with 137 yards. His route run and target percentages have increased so expect the Chargers to keep him involved. Keenan Allen even came out this week and said ” He scores a lot. Obviously, we haven’t been scoring. It’s probably got to do with Mike not getting the ball.” Also, his price makes it easy for us to jam in the rest of the studs in the flex spot.
DraftKings Showdown- Pittsburgh @Los Angeles Flex
Austin Ekler ($10,800 Flex)
The Steelers are 24th against the run, allowing 123 rushing yards but they haven’t given up a touchdown to a running back. He averages over 58 rushing yards per game so we can easily surpass his average. Also 7 out of 9 games he has gone over his expected rushing total. The great thing about Ekler is he is highly involved in the passing game. No matter the game script Ekler should be involved in the offense.
Keenan Allen ($9,400 Flex)
Allen leads his team with receiving yards, has reeled in 65 catches, and averages over 75 yards per game. He carries a 26.8% target share and leads his team in red-zone targets at 28%. He makes a great flex play especially if you pair him up with Justin Herbert. The Steelers are the 10th ranked passing defense and Allen has historically done well against Pittsburgh. With this game being closer than predicted the Chargers will be forced to keep the ball in the air to win the game
Pat Freiermuth ($5,400 Flex)
This isn’t the best matchup for Pat as the Chargers are ranked 3rd against tight ends. Also, Eric Ebron is healthy and back in the mix. Pat has been a reliable source of offense for the Steelers so if they do find themselves behind they may rely on him to move the ball through the air. Also, it helps that he is pretty inexpensive compared to the top options on the slate.
Jared Cook ($4,000 Flex)
He averages 38 receiving yards per game and has been an integral part of the passing offense. He garners about 13% of his team’s targets. Also at his price point, it helps to stack in studs like Ekler and Allen. The Steelers defend the tight end position well so don’t be surprised if Cook doesn’t perform.
Chris Boswell ($3,600 Flex)
Boswell has hit 18 of 19 field goals this season and has hit 15 out of 16 extra points. He is highly accurate and the Pittsburgh offense may struggle due to limited practice time. Boswell is a reliable source of points at a cheap price point which will help put studs into the lineup.
