We are here to cover the DraftKings Showdown slates for the 2021 season, continuing with Washington @Dallas. The Washington Football Team will have to bring their A game if they have any hope to beat the Cowboys. Touting one of the leagues best rush defense, WFT should look to stop Elliot and Pollard and force Dallas to throw. This wont be easy as I see the Cowboys defense keeping the WFT offense off the field. This will cause the Cowboys offense to dominate time of possession for most of the game wearing out the stout WFT defense. Vegas projects the O/U to be 46.5 and Dallas winning by 10 points. As a result I’m loading up on Cowboys players in my lineup.
DraftKings Showdown- Washington @Dallas Captain Picks
Tony Pollard ($10,200 Capt/ $6,800 Flex)
Dallas should be up early in this contest giving Pollard more opportunities. In their last game against the Giants, Pollard was on the field for 41% of the snaps and had 15 touches. He should be a key piece in the Dallas offense to close out the game and have opportunities during garbage time. I love his price especially for the captain spot; he’s a key part of the offense, has a decent ceiling and at this price you can fit in all of the studs.
Amari Cooper ($11,700 Capt/ $7,800 Flex)
Cooper is demanding more targets. He has only had 9 catches for 100 receiving yards and one touchdown. Overall he’s had an underwhelming season with 53 catches for 683 yards and 6 scores. Cooper has some ideas to get the offense going through the air and against cover 2. Let’s hope they heed his advice and target him more. Dak told the media this week he wants to make the offense explosive and the reason they win this game. If they really do make a change on the field and start sending Cooper more targets I want him in all of my lineups. At his price and CeeDee Lamb coming back from injury, potentially playing less, I think Cooper makes a great captain selection.
DraftKings Showdown- Washington @Dallas Flex
Ezekiel Elliot ($9,400 Flex)
Elliot should get most of the backfield touches early as he looks to break hall of fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson’s record of 1,250 scrimmage yards and 8 touchdowns in each of his first six seasons. Although Washington only allows 103.9 rushing yards per game, I see the Washington defense running out of gas due to their inept offense and not being able to stay on the field. As the game progresses more and more holes on the line of scrimmage should open up for Elliot and Pollard. Elliot is overpriced for his production and reduced role with Pollard getting more touches. On the flip side he could be the only Cowboy that scores in this game so we may need him in our lineups.
Terry McLaurin ($8,800 Flex)
When Ron Rivera was asked about getting McLaurin more involved he said he “would…like to see Terry targeted a little bit more because of who he is? Yes” and then followed up with saying he “honestly [doesn’t know the reason why he’s not involved more], you would have to ask the quarterbacks”. It doesn’t instill confidence in me that the head coach can’t figure out why his star receiver hasn’t been involved as of late. We all know Terry is one of the best WRs in the league and Washington will need to get him going if they expect to be competitive against their division rival.
Jaret Patterson ($6,600 Flex)
If Gibson is limited or can’t play, start Jaret Patterson. If he takes over he may split carries with Jonathan Williams. On the surface that presents a concern but with Diggs and Parsons playing on the other side of the field, I can see Washington leaning more on the run and using Patterson and Williams as extra receivers. By no means is he a safe play but would recommend him for large field tournaments.
Dalton Schultz ($6,200 Flex)
Last game against the Giants, Schultz lead all receivers in the first 3 quarters with 6 catches, 51 yards and a touchdown. He has been a safety blanket for Dak in the red zone and should have no problem finding him in the end zone. Since he has played a significant role in the Dallas offense I think his price is fair. Schultz is a great way to round out your lineups especially if you pair him up with Dak for correlation.
Cowboys DST ($4,000 Flex)
Dallas’ defense has an impressive plus 12 turnover differential. Playing at home against a underwhelming Washington team, the Cowboys defense should dominate. If Dallas’ offense doesn’t make any changes, the defense should be the reason they win. They have playmakers scattered across the defense such as star corner Trevon Diggs, rookie stud Micah Parsons and defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. This should pose a problem for Taylor Heinicke and lead to many turnover worthy plays.
