Finishing off the third Sunday of the 2022 season, San Francisco @Denver, here we cover the DraftKings showdown slate. This game is interesting to me, as we have question marks over both offenses. The 49ers have been forced to return to Jimmy Garoppolo, changing how the offense is set to operate from the mobile Trey Lance. And the Broncos offense just hasn’t been firing effectively at all this season, despite them adding an elite-level QB in Russell Wilson.
DraftKings SNF Showdown 2022 – San Francisco @Denver Captain Picks
Deebo Samuel ($17,100)
Deebo is the highest-priced player on the slate for a reason, he has elite-level usage, with rushes to give him a solid floor, and targets giving him the ceiling. The best floor and upside play on this slate, he needs to be on your lineup in some way. Either CPT or Flex.
Courtland Sutton ($14,100)
Sutton is the only receiver for the Broncos who comes into this without any type of injury tag. Ok, maybe not 100% true, but Jerry Jeudy is a game-time decision in this one. Sutton should easily lead the team in targets. Against this SF secondary, a statline like 5 catches for 60 yards and a TD gets him to value. That is easily achieved in this matchup- especially if Jeudy misses.
Jeff Wilson ($12,000)
Wilson is the starting RB in this offense, and getting the touches to prove it. With the change in QB, he is likely to get more work. With the injury now to his backup, Wilson is going to get all the touches he needs out of the backfield. Even against Denver’s tough run defense, he is going to be a fine play on the slate. Slotting him in as captain saves some salary to put other plays in.
DraftKings SNF Showdown 2022 – San Francisco @Denver Flex Picks
Jimmy Garoppolo ($9,000)
I don’t want to have Jimmy G in too many lineups, but he has some decent prop lines in this one. The impact of the team moving on from Trey Lance is going to change how the offense as a whole. But this Denver defense is probably one to play to get right. His ownership might not be that high either, with an overreaction to the lack of rushing.
George Kittle ($7,400)
Kittle could be a decent captain option in some GPP lineups, as he won’t be put in there by many players. His first game of the season, and seems to be healthy to start the season. At the moment, there isn’t news about him being on a snap count, which makes him a prime candidate to be included in lineups. Especially as Jimmy G looks to dump the ball off short, with his chemistry with Kittle.
Brandon Aiyuk ($7,000)
Aiyuk is moved all over the field, similar to how they use Deebo Samuel, but with less of a floor. Jimmy G coming back is likely to mean that the team go back to more of a passing offense, which should help Aiyuk. Aiyuk’s ability to make defenders miss makes him a constant week-to-week threat.
Albert Okwuegbunam ($5,200)
This season hasn’t started the way that people would have hoped, but at some point, he is going to pop. His size makes him a matchup nightmare, but he is yet to develop a good connection with Russell Wilson. If Jerry Jeudy is forced to miss this one, there are targets in the offense.
KJ Hamler ($5,000)
Hamler is a risky play. But he would be the secondary receiving option in this one if Jeudy is forced to miss. Hamler has been struggling with his own injury which is likely to scare people off using him in their lineups, but he was a full participant on Friday. So the signs are positive for his involvement in this one.
Jauan Jennings ($4,600)
The 49ers offense is going to need to pass the ball, with the change at QB. Jennings is the WR3 in the offense, and has been seeing a good number of targets. With the defense having to contend with Samuel, Aiyuk (and potentially Kittle), he could be overlooked in this one.
Kyle Juszczyk/ Jordan Mason ($1,400/ $1,000)
Wilson is going to get the vast majority of carries, but he isn’t going to be on the field doing everything all game. So, which backup RB to go for (and yes, with how deep the team has been forced to go, I’m counting Juszczyk as an RB)? I think I’d go with Juszczyk with the return of Jimmy G and how they have historically thrown him the ball. But I’m going to have a mix of both- it won’t take much to meet their price tag, and both have the ability to fall into the endzone.
DraftKings SNF Showdown 2022 – San Francisco @Denver Kickers and DSTs
The 49ers DST ($4,400) defensive front have struggled to make an impact so far this season, with only 4 sacks to start the season. But something will have to give, with Wilson looking shaky and giving up sacks. Their secondary though has looked great, and should be able to keep this a lower-scoring game, giving them value. The Broncos DST ($3,600) hasn’t made any type of impact this season, as their secondary has been impacted with injuries, meaning that the team hasn’t forced a single INT. When you consider they’ve played against Seattle and Houston, not a positive sign.
With the game being played at Mile High, that brings kickers into consideration. Both Robbie Gould ($4,200) & Brandon McManus ($4,000) should have plenty of chances here, on strong offenses that could stall out at times. With the added range, both should be in range often.
