DraftKings TNF Showdown 2023 – Detroit @Green Bay

Starting Week 4 of the action, the 2023 DraftKings showdown slate- Detroit @Green Bay. This game is a little hard for me as a Packers fan. We seem to be doing enough with Jordan Love, but this is going to be a tough test. The return of Jones is an important one for the overall offense being able to move the chains. The Lions look solid and know they can cause an upset, and welcome their own veteran RB with David Montgomery looking set to go. The O/U is 45.5, with a tight spread of just 1.5 pts in favor of the Lions.

DraftKings TNF Showdown 2023 – Detroit @Green Bay Captain Picks

Amon-Ra St. Brown ($17,400 Capt/ $11,600 Flex)

ARSB is a massive part of this Lions offense, and with DK’s PPR scoring he could have a big game. The Lions star receiver is the primary weapon in the offense, and has 10 catches for 100+ yards as a very realistic outcome here. If he finds the endzone, going to be the highest scorer on the slate easily here.

Aaron Jones ($16,200 Capt/ $10,800 Flex)

Jones looks like he is going to be able to play here, after missing time with a hamstring injury. There is, of course, the risk that he is going to re-injure himself, but he is a big part of this offense. The Packers offense look to him on the ground and through the air. The issue is that we could see a timeshare with Dillon, limiting the ceiling of Jones in his first game back.

Jared Goff ($15,600 Capt/ $10,400 Flex)

I don’t typically go for just any QB in the CPT spot, and normally the likes of Goff wouldn’t qualify. However, Goff has been airing the ball throughout the opening weeks, and could throw it for 30+ times here. Adding him as your CPT gives a different approach to the slate, and the pricing should give you a bit of flexibility elsewhere in a big Lions stack.

Jahmyr Gibbs ($14,400 Capt/ $9,600 Flex)

Gibbs usage is up and down, with a low snap count in Week 1 with Montgomery taking the majority. In Week 3, where Gibbs was primed for alot of work with Montgomery out, got 60% of the snaps but should’ve really had a bit more. But, despite the lack of volume, his ability allows him to be efficient and put up big fantasy numbers. The return of Montgomery limits his ceiling, but we could see him eased back into the rotation.

DraftKings TNF Showdown 2023 – Detroit @Green Bay Flex Picks

Jordan Love ($9,800 Flex)

I’m not totally sold that Love is going to be the QB to lead the Packers for the next decade just yet, but he is making the right progress for that to happen. Threw for 3 TDs in each of the opening two weeks, and using his legs effectively. The return of Jones in the backfield should lift the overall offense, making Love a nice play here.

Romeo Doubs ($8,800 Flex)

The return of Watson in the offense is going to put the field off of Doubs to a degree. But, Doubs has been a great target for Love to start the season and been on the field consistently. Doubs is the way I’m going to lean, with Watson only just returning from an injury that has stopped him from playing at all to start the season.

Christian Watson ($8,200 Flex)

Watson looks like he could make his first appearance of the season. Be interesting to see how he fits into the offense, with the team able to move the ball effectively through the air. His injury is a bit of a concern, given his deep threat a big part of his game, but he is the most talented receiver on the roster.

Sam LaPorta ($8,000 Flex)

Rookie TEs typically struggle, but LaPorta has become a big part of this Lions offense straight away. LaPorta is second on the team in all main receiving metrics. I was tempted to add him as a CPT option as a potential pivot from the field- definite flex play in lineups.

AJ Dillon ($7,000 Flex)

After struggling for a few weeks, where he was given the lead role, I don’t know if Dillon is that guy. The price drop makes him more appealing- especially if the Packers ease Jones back in after injury. But I don’t know if he is going to be able to hit value here unless he falls into the endzone.

David Montgomery ($6,800 Flex)

Montgomery is back, and the pricing here doesn’t reflect that. He is the lead back on the ground for the Lions, and looks to be the goal-line back too. This price point is going to make him a popular play, so bare that in mind when selecting other pieces in your lineup. Given the way the Packers defend, I think you could opt for a double-RB approach and pair Montgomery and Gibbs- their roles don’t really affect one another.

Luke Musgrave ($6,400 Flex)

Musgrave hasn’t carved out a reliable role in this Packers offense, although he was able to get 8 targets last week in the comeback victory over the Saints. Not sure he gets that level of work here, but he is getting plenty of snaps in this offense and has the ability to have a big game- including potentially scoring his first TD.

Josh Reynolds ($6,200 Flex)

Reynolds didn’t manage to get a single target against the Falcons last week, despite being on the field for the majority of the game. Doesn’t overly concern me- he is a big part of the offense here, and has a well defined role in the offense. At the price, I’ll take a shot on him- including a shot or two at CPT.

Jayden Reed ($5,600 Flex)

Reed has the most receiving yards and joint-first in targets to start the season. His role will likely be impacted by the return of Watson, but I could see him being rotated in regularly to ease Watson back in. Decent GPP option, but hard to trust him in your lineup otherwise.

Kalif Raymond/ Marvin Jones ($5,200/ $2,000 Flex)

WR3’s are normally a nice way to attack showdown slates. But I’m not sure I want to look here outside fo multi-entry GPPs. Raymond isn’t getting enough work to really feel good at all about the price, and Jones doesn’t look like the same field stretcher he used to be. EIther of them could score a long TD, but the more likely outcome is a zero.

Dontayvion Wicks/ Samori Toure ($5,000/ $600 Flex)

The pricing here is odd- Wicks is likely the WR4 in this offense with the return of Watson, and he is being priced like a WR3!? Dart throw/ punt at best. With hardly any production on the season I’m really going to limit my exposure to him on the slate. Toure has equally had a small amount of production, but it’s a massive price difference. Could pay off his tag with a single catch. Allows you to spend up elsewhere in a GPP lineup too.

Dart Throw Plays (Various)

Instead of writing up a line for a few options with their own sections, thought I’d list out a few in one area. Not really worth considering these as core plays, only in multi-entry GPPs:

  • Craig Reynolds (RB, DET) $2,000 Flex – looks to be the RB3 now with Montgomery back. Not tempted here at $2k for a tiny workload
  • Emanuel Wilson (RB, GB) $1,400 Flex – won’t see much volume here, unless Jones suffers a reinjury. Pricing makes it hard to hit value though even if that were to happen
  • Brock Wright (TE, DET) $800 Flex – Wright is the clear backup TE now, but he has shown his redzone ability before and could score a TD and smash value.
  • Josiah Deguara (TE, GB) $200 Flex– much the same story here as above

DraftKings TNF Showdown 2023 – Detroit @Green Bay Kickers and DSTs

The pricing on the slate makes kickers nice options. Riley Patterson ($4,800) has kicked everything he has been given this season- albeit he is only averaging a single FG attempt a game at the moment. The Packers defense at home should be a tougher ask than some of the games recently, which should help his floor here. Things aren’t much different for Anders Carlson ($4,600). Averaging a FG per game, and kicked everything that he has been given the opportunity for. The only difference is that Carlson has kicked generally from longer distances.

The defenses aren’t overly interesting to me, but I’m not totally discounting them,- given what we have seen this season in primetime games. Between the Lions DST ($4,000) and Packers DST ($3,600) I would opt for the Packers, cheaper and playing at home.
