The Jets went from a fun team with some young and nearly elite players to full-blown contenders overnight. They had a massive overhaul to this team, thanks in large part to the Green Bay Packers for sending over their entire offense (not quite, but still). Draft Recap
The Jets committed to beefing up their offensive line in the draft with center Joe Tippmann out of Wisconsin in the second round and tackle Carter Warren out of Pittsburgh in the fourth. If both of these players can make an impact, the Jets are looking to have a very formidable and young offensive line to support Aaron Rodgers and a rushing attack. Speaking of that rushing attack, the Jets drafted their Breece Hall insurance with the size/speed freak Israel Abanikanda in the fifth round.
Positional Previews
Notable Players- Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle
Aaron Rodgers will be 39 for most of this upcoming season with the New York Jets. It’s not a hot take to say that he is nearing the end of his career; not everyone can be Tom Brady and play well into his 40s. It’s hard to tell if the regression we saw last year was completely due to the inexperienced wide receiver core around him. But I’m willing to give him a shot in Redraft leagues and for contenders in Dynasty leagues. Just keep in mind, he could hang it up after any season going forward, we’ve seen it teased quite a few times already.
As for Zach Wilson, I think this might be the end of his hopes of being a starting quarterback. Barring a Geno Smith-esque resurgence later on in his career, he’s probably a backup in the league going forward.
Notable Players- Breece Hall, Michael Carter, Israel Abanikanda
Breece Hall is a stud and a top 3 Dynasty running back, even with the injury last season. It was a clean ACL tear and we can expect him back this season. It might be a slow start, which makes Redraft a little tricky, but he’s reportedly looking like he’ll be ready to go to start the season. Michael Carter is a good handcuff, but his handcuff value is probably capped by the presence of Abanikanda. If Breece does miss any time, it’ll most likely be a split backfield between Carter and Abanikanda.
Notable Players- Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mecole Hardman, Corey Davis
Garrett Wilson is another young fantasy stud on this team and a consensus top-10 Dynasty wide receiver. He’s locked into a season with Aaron Rodgers and has a non-zero chance to be the WR1 in fantasy football this season. He doesn’t have serious target competition, but enough talent around him to take some of the defensive attention off of him.
Speaking of that talent around him, Lazard, Hardman, and Davis are all just guys in this offense. Lazard is probably the most interesting with some flex/bye-week fill-in value. Hopefully, Davis gets moved and lands elsewhere to gain some value, but even then, he’ll be a flex/bye-week fill-in type as well.
Notable Players- Tyler Conklin, CJ Uzomah, Zack Kuntz
Conklin is a serviceable tight end if you are in a pinch in fantasy, but not a guy you want to rely on. The addition of Aaron Rodgers might change that a bit, but I don’t expect to see Conklin all of a sudden launch into the top 6 tight ends on a weekly basis. But he can definitely provide some value if you punt the position in Redraft or Dynasty leagues.
Uzomah is probably limited without injury. And Kuntz is a decent stash in deep Dynasty leagues as he has an amazing athletic profile, but as a Round 7 rookie, he has limited opportunities.
