Anthony Richardson @HOU (£6,400)
I don’t know if I’m fully into Richardson as a QB in the NFL. But, if you think he is then you may as well roll him out to start the season. Richardson was able to showcase his rushing ability before he was injured last season. Get out in front of the people that are wanting to wait ahead of Week 2. But, in all honesty, I’m happier to pay down on the slate.
Tua Tagovailoa v JAX (£5,800)
If you have high expectations for Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, then you kind of need to be in on Tagovailoa in some way too. The Jacksonville secondary isn’t great, and will have its hands full with the multitude of weapons that the team has. With some other cheaper options on the slate, you can stack him with Hill and be on the way to a decent lineup.
Geno Smith v DEN (£5,400)
The Seahawks struggled last season, due in part to the inconsistency that Smith had with the ball in his hands. But, looking at the games in more detail his protection forced him to rush on plays. The Denver defense isn’t a strong unit, and with the weapons that Smith has to throw to, he has a good opportunity to start the season well.
Also consider C.J. Stroud @IND (£6,200), Joe Burrow v NE (£6,200) & Caleb Williams v TEN (£6,000)
Kenneth Walker III v DEN (£6,000)
The Seahawks facing the Broncos to start the season is exactly the type of matchup that the offense needs. Walker has shown that he is able to handle the starters workload out of the backfield, and Seattle are likely to get out to a lead. If that were to happen Walker should be given a decent number of carries in the offense.
Alvin Kamara v CAR (£5,400)
Not without risk, because Taysom Hill continues to be used at the goal-line, but he has a solid floor. Kendre Miller is on IR, and Jamaal Williams didn’t set the world on fire last season. Instead, I see Kamara getting plenty of carries and targets in this one.
Zack Moss v NE (£4,800)
Moss is going to see volume out of the backfield, after signing with the Bengals during the offseason. The Bengals offense, even without Ja’Marr Chase (if he were to sit) should be more than enough to overpower the Patriots defense. That should lead to plenty of carries for Moss (and potential goal-line work). At this price, he is a nice play.
Jerome Ford v DAL (£4,600)
Ford is set to be the Browns starter officially with Nick Chubb now officially ruled out to start the season. Ford was a great deputy last season, working as a receiver and a runner. The team haven’t got much competition for Ford on the depth chart either. Should see enough volume in a tough game to hit value.
Also consider Joe Mixon v IND (£6,000), Brian Robinson @TB ($4,800), J.K. Dobbins @LV (£3,400) & Khalil Herbert v TEN (£2,800)
Tyreek Hill v JAX (£7,200)
Hill is a constant slate-breaking threat. Has speed to burn, and is consistently schemed open in the Dolphins offense. The Jacksonville secondary have struggled in the previous few seasons, and Hill will be looking to make headlines after his 2023 season.
Malik Nabers @MIN (£5,600)
Nabers is the new start receiver in New York. He has a massive amount of talent, and should see a healthy target share in this offense. With his downfield ability, he should be able to hit value quickly against the Vikings secondary.
Chris Godwin @WAS (£5,400)
Godwin comes off the back of a ‘disappointing’ season but that was mainly down to his lack of TDs. He has now had three straight seasons with over 1,000 yards. Against Washington, Tampa Bay will be looking to get a positive result. At this price, with PPR scoring, if Godwin can find the endzone he should hit value here.
Brian Thomas Jr. @MIA (£4,200)
Thomas was drafted to fill the receiving gap that Calvin Ridley left. The Jaguars are likely to need to chase this game on the road, and if that’s the case we should see Lawrence throwing the ball more often (and potentially more targets).
Also consider Ja’Marr Chase @NE (£6,400), Marvin Harrison Jr. v BUF (£5,800), DK Metcalf @DEN (£5,600) & Adam Thielen v NO (£3,600)
Dalton Kincaid @ARI (£4,200)
Kincaid could be like Travis Kelce has been recently for the Chiefs- the lead receiver for the team. Buffalo are going to be looking for someone to step up in the offense, and the second year player has a great chance to be one of the highest scoring TEs on the slate
Jonnu Smith v JAX (£2,800)
The Dolphins offense is one of the best in the league and is stacked with talent. One area that they didn’t have someone last year was TE. Smith has been a redzone weapon before his disappointing time with the Patriots, and showed flashes with the Falcons last season. At the price, he could be worth considering.
Hayden Hurst v LV (£2,400)
There are a number of expensive plays on the slate, so if you needed to find some savings- Hurst could be it. The Chargers have a whole new offense, and Hurst looks like he could be the starter at TE. It’s also worth considering that Greg Roman was OC for the Ravens when Hurst was selected in the first round in 2018.
Also consider Jake Ferguson v CLE (£3,600), Taysom Hill @CAR (£3,200) & Mike Gescicki v NE (£2,400) (ONLY IF CHASE DOESN’T PLAY)
