Arizona clearly saw enough in James Conner last season to bring him back, here we unpack the fantasy impact of that move. This move wouldn’t have been as impactful if it hadn’t been for the fact that Chase Edmonds has left to head to Miami.
Conner was a player who had alot to prove after being let go by the Steelers at the end of last season. Despite Conner having the most inefficient season of his career, with a YPC of just 3.7, Conner had a great season for fantasy owners.
The Cardinals offensive line needs to be improved, their struggles were a big part of why Conner was as ineffective as he was on the ground. The big reason he was so effective was the work he was given around the goal-line, something that isn’t likely to change.
Arizona’s offense is effective, able to get downfield often. That led to Conner being given a massive amount of goal-line work, putting him second in goal-line carries on the season.
For redraft, he is going to be looked at in the early rounds. For dynasty, I don’t think you can really pick him up- the owner is likely to want top value for a player that is yet to finish a complete season.
