Rookie Profile – Hunter Long

Hunter Long - TE - Boston College

Welcome to the rookie profile for Hunter Long. Long is likely to be forgotten by alot of fans, but don’t be one of those. He is likely one of the most ready TEs in this class, because he is a great blocker. That could mean he gets on the field early in his career.

College Career

Long was great during his time at Boston but didn’t see much action during his freshman season. Had a great 2020 season, displaying a nice well-rounded skill set.

Scouting Report

Positives:

Long has great intelligence to play the game, able to block on pass or run plays. Able to run a variety of routes, as well as having the ability to use his good hands and frame to catch the ball.

Has good length, which should help him become a decent safety value for QBs in the NFL. Has good burst out of the blocks to get immediate separation on short routes.

Negatives:

Lacks top-end athletic ability, and can look stiff in the open field at times. His good burst isn’t matched with his top end speed, where he can struggle to get downfield and away from defenders.

Can also struggle with run blocks against some larger defenders, where he holds the player rather than making an impact block and sending them back.

Pre Draft Analysis

Expected Draft Capital:

Round 3 but could drop into Round 4

Landing Spots:

Long should be able to contribute from the start of his NFL career, due to the fact that he has the skills you need from a starting TE. Might end up being the type of player that doesn’t help you in fantasy, as he is an effective blocker.

A team like the Colts that has developed talent at the position would be best for the long-term success of Long.
