Rookie Profile – Kyle Pitts

Kyle Pitts - TE- Florida

Welcome to the rookie profile for the best (non-QB) player in this draft, Kyle Pitts. Pitts is one of the greatest prospects at the TE position for a while- arguably ever. An offensive mismatch with his frame and speed.

Pitts is going to have alot of pressure on him when he enters the league, but he has the talent to excel in the NFL.

College Career

Pitts had a great college career, finishing with 100 receptions for just shy of 1,500 yards and 18 TDs. That would have been even higher if Pitts didn’t opt out at the end of the college season. His 2018 season he was on the field, but only recorded three receptions. However, given how he stepped up in 2019 it’s clear that he was learning the game.

2019 and 2020 were the seasons he started to grab the headlines and flash. Pitts ultimately finished his 2020 season early, so that he could prepare for the NFL draft. If he hadn’t done that then his final stat line could have been even more impressive.

Pitts is head and shoulders ahead of the other players at the position, and would arguably be one of the best receivers in the class.

Scouting Report

Positives:

Pitts is a mismatch on the field, regardless who he lines up against. His frame allows him to tower over defensive backs, and has the speed to get away from Linebackers. In college he looked like he was playing a different game at times, such was his advantage over defenders.

Pitts has great hands, and has great ability to make cuts on his routes run. Combine that with his incredible catch radius, and anything that is thrown his way can become a big play.

Negatives:

Pitts can struggle blocking, has the right mentality but doesn’t seem able to get the right leverage. However, given his strengths, it’s unlikely he will be used to block that much at the next level.

Pre Draft Analysis

Expected Draft Capital:

Round 1 (towards the top)

Landing Spots:

Pitts is almost landing spot proof, giving the ability of the player. The teams selecting at the top of the draft should all be great for him.
