College Career

Jones stepped into the starting role in 2019 after Tua Tagovailoa suffered his season-ending injury. Ultimately leading them to win the championship. Has good ability in the pocket, able to get defenders to move before progressing through his reads. Accurate passer, who makes good decisions, which was shown in his great TD: INT ratio in the 2020 season.

Scouting Report

Positives:

Jones is an accurate passer of the ball, especially on shorter throws. Able to hit his receiver in stride, allowing for a smooth catch. Jones has good footwork, and a quick release if pressured.

Able to fake defenders with his pump fake and identify zone coverage well, and know when his receiver is going to be able to make a play on the ball.

Negatives:

Jones is accruate, but is held back by a lack of arm strength. Can also struggle to move away from the play that is called, which results in throwing the ball away, or being sacked. If forced out of the pocket, can struggle to keep his accuracy at times.

Pre Draft Analysis

Expected Draft Capital:

Round 1? The rookie profile of Mac Jones is hard to pin. He has limited exposure as a starter, and really needs talent around him to succeed. That could mean he ends falling to day 2.

Landing Spots:

Jones needs to be surrounded by talented receivers, that are able to make plays with the ball in their hands. Needs an effective OL to protect him. Should be a good fit for the 49ers, or a long-term solution for New England.
