Notable Headlines

Latu was a 4-star recruit out of high school, starting his career with the University of Washington. Had a decent opening season, before a neck injury in 2020 stopped his football career with a medical retirement thrown in. After being cleared to play he transferred to UCLA in 2022 and started causing QB issues with 36 tackles, with 10.5 sacks. Followed that up with another impressive season, beating his 2022 statistics with 49 tackles and 13 sacks.

Scouting Report

Positives

Latu has good size, and has the length to work in a two or three point stance. From the snap, he is able to get off the line quickly and has a good first step. Combining that first step and his power, he can have blockers feeling uncomfortable straight away. Once he is locked up with blockers, he has a good range of moves and techniques to get free and continue his rush. He also has a good motor, finding himself near the ball and causing turnovers and becoming a nuisance for offensive lineman.

Negatives

Latu has been able to get the better of college tackles, but he could struggle at the next level. He can also struggle in defending the run, can struggle to set the edge effectively as well as get free from run blocks.

Pre Draft Analysis

Expected Draft Capital- Round 1/2

Latu has been getting mocked mid-late in the first round, and with the other talent in this draft class that feels about right. Has shown he has the physical attributes to perform in college, but there are some real concerns about if he can continue that in the NFL. Combined with his medical history, there are a few question marks. Could potentially slip into the second round, but don’t think it’ll be too far.
