Welcome back to my trust or bust series, brought back for 2024, here we look at the Week 2 matchups.
Man oh man we are so BACK baby, well kind of, well some of us at least. But, yes the NFL is back and all feels right in the world…except Kirk Cousins in Atlanta (seriously, wtf!) Ok, ok the quarterback play left a lot to be desired, but Josh Allen looked good. It didn’t take long for Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy to build their connection, and oh my god did you see Aaron Richardson’s bomb to Alec Pierce (yes, I saw the passes to AD Mitchell) but regardless football is back and so is fantasy!
Now, some of us, I mean some of you sickos (me) have been grinding the fantasy grind since the Super Bowl (I know, I have a problem) but having actual football back, scoring real points, and setting lineups and not just staring at them, it feels amazing! Unless, you started Daniel Jones, Kirk Cousins, or really any other QB.
Thankfully, Week 1 is behind us and the initial layer of rust has been shaken off (insert Taylor Swift joke) and we can move on to Week 2, which has some pretty promising matchups itself.
Did I mention football is back?
Week 18 Inside/ Outside Picks
QB CJ Stroud (HOU)
Current Ranking 8th
This is a hard one because when you look at what CJ Stroud did in Week 1 (QB8), fantasy drafters have to be feeling pretty good about the Texans offense, and while I echo that sentiment, the Chicago Bears defense looks stout! Having a league lead tying 22 interceptions last year, Chicago picked back up right where they left off with four turnovers and two touchdowns! Is CJ Stroud, Will Levis, no! Is Chicago’s defense legit, yes!

QB Justin Herbert (LAC)
Week 2 ranking 8th
Did you see the Carolina Panthers “defense” on Sunday, sheesh! In all seriousness, Justin Herbert and the Chargers looked much better than I anticipated, even with Herbert recovering from his foot injury early this off-season and against a strong defensive team in the Raiders. Now, Herbert didn’t light up the scoreboard by any means but he did have one touchdown pass and four rushing attempts. I expect to see Herbert have his way against a defense that let Derek Carr pass for three touchdowns in Week 1.
RB Alvin Kamara (NO)
Current Ranking 8th
Kamara had a somewhat ‘vintage’ game in Week 1 with over 100 total yards, a score and 5 receptions. But, it was against the Panthers “defense” Kamara and the Saints face a much tougher test this Sunday in the Cowboys who held the Browns offense to less than 250 total yards and a three yards per play average.
Who I like More
RB Brian Robinson (WAS)
Week 2 ranking 21st
In Week 1 Robinson didn’t disappoint those who started him with 16 opportunities, 90 total yards, and a touchdown. Facing a Giants team that allowed over 90 rushing yards and a touchdown to Minnesota’s Aaron Jones, this battle of two bad defenses will lead to fantasy points being scored. Oh, and the Giants allowed the third most rushing touchdowns in 2023.
WR Justin Jefferson (MIN)
Current Ranking 6th
Normally this would be where I would talk about how bad Sam Darnold is and how good the 49ers defense is, actually…that is what I’ll do. To be fair Darnold wasn’t terrible on Sunday, but he did throw a pick to go along with two touchdowns. But, it’s Sam Darnold and he’s playing the 49ers. No offense to Jefferson, but can we really expect him to do much given the circumstances?
Who I like More
WR Malik Nabers (NYG)
Week 2 Ranking 14th
After a disappointing NFL debut, I expect Malik Nabers and the Giants offense to give us a better idea of what they are or better yet, what they can be offensively. Even though his performance left a lot to be desired, Nabers did earn 7 targets and played 100% of the snaps for the Giants offense. In a matchup versus the Commanders whose secondary gave up 4 passing touchdowns last week, I see a breakout game in Nabers future.
TE Brock Bowers (LV)
Week 2 ranking 9th
Bowers looked the part of a first round pick and the Raiders offense overall looked ok, but when you play the Ravens defense, ok won’t cut it. Dating back to 2023 the Ravens defense is top 15 overall versus tight ends. Allowing only 3 touchdowns all season. The Chiefs tight ends scored a combined 12.1 points on Thursday Night.
Who I like More
TE Cade Otton (TB)
Week 2 ranking 19th
Let’s be honest, outside of the top 5 tight ends, is there really anyone we feel great about … .? I didn’t think so. That being said, with an over/under of 51.5 there’s a lot to like about this matchup between the Lions and Bucs. This is more of a hail mary play, I’ll admit. But, in fantasy. Sometimes that’s all we need.
That’s gonna do it for this week’s piece. I hope you found the info useful and actionable.
