Week 10 Dynasty Buy and Sell

For Week 10 I thought I’d put a slightly different slant on my dynasty buy and sell players. I thought I’d go through how you can look to rebuild your roster, so you can compete in the near future.

I’ve mentioned it a couple of times, but if you’re not in a contending window the best thing to do is buy assets that are unlikely to have significant drops in value whilst still having an upside. The best type of player that represents this asset is young receivers so who should you be looking to acquire.

Young Receivers

CeeDee Lamb

If you’ve been reading or listening to me all season then you know my love for CeeDee Lamb is real. Prior to the Dak injury, Lamb was seriously in the conversation for overall WR1 in dynasty and a 1st round startup pick.

He was averaging over 17 points a game and posted double-digit points in all 5 of his games to start the season. That talk has cooled slightly as his production has waned since Dak’s horrific injury. However, this has just opened a small buying window as your last chance to acquire lamb. If the current Lamb owner is competing he could be growing impatient with being unable to start Lamb and therefore make him available.

I would be comfortable paying anything outside of a top 4 Superflex pick in 2021 to acquire Lamb. Realistically if the Lamb owner is a contender they’re looking for a win-now player. So I’d be happy shipping any receiver not named Metcalf, Brown or Adams for him.

Jalen Reagor

Whilst rookie receivers have been lighting up scoreboards all season injuries have curtailed Reagor’s season. That has meant that he hasn’t quite flashed his elite upside as of yet.

I still believe that talent is there and I think he has a fantastic opportunity to finish 2020 on a tear. That could lead him to be in that 2nd or 3rd tier of Dynasty receivers before the year is out.

Similar to the Lamb conversation if I can move an older receiver and buy back some years I’m delighted. I would rather have Reagor than Cooper Kupp, Keenan Allen, Marquise Brown or Will Fuller

Denzel Mims

After missing the first 6 games of the season Mims hasn’t exactly blown up the box score with 8.2, 6.2 and 10.2 fantasy points. However, if you watch the games (which sadly as a Jets fan I have) he is continuously flashing.

Mims shows excellent separation at the top of his routes and has got open several times deep. It’s only the Jets QB play and play-calling that is holding him back.

Luckily that should all change heading into 2021. Mims has the chance to be the true year 2 breakout star if he sees upgrades in those two areas. The rookie’s price currently sits around a mid-2021 2nd, but again if you can move Leonard Fournette, Jamison Crowder, or even Antonio Brown I believe in the long term you’ll be in a better spot.

Injured Players

One of the best moves for the future can be to acquire injured players as you can get a great player on a discount but you’re also allowing the contending team to reinforce their roster for this season. I would split this into two categories:

Proven Studs

These guys have proven they are elite performers yet might be able to get them on the cheap if their owner if going all in to win this year.

  • Courtland Sutton
  • Dak Prescott
  • Saquon Barkley
  • George Kittle

A few under the radar options who could bounce back and be relevant next year.

Players With Flashes

Jalen Hurd

Had a bit of buzz about him in the preseason before another season-ending injury could have now curtailed his career but can be had for essentially nothing.

Parris Campbell

Showed some real flashes as an underneath threat in the early season. Since forgotten about and his price is probably around a future 3rd.

Blake Jarwin

Possibly the most hyped preseason TE. Schultz has stepped in admirably but could be a decent buy-low option for around a future 3rd or 4th.

OJ Howard

I still believe in the talent and he appeared to be putting it together before his season was ruined by injury. It will probably take a 3rd to get him.

Tarik Cohen

I may be the biggest Cohen fan around but I honestly believe he can be a fantastically cheap RB with the potential to be an RB 2 next year especially after Chicago resigned him. I would be comfortable paying a 3rd for him but you might be able to get him even cheaper.

Sell

The sells are harder to project as it depends if you’re aiming to contend in 2021 or if your rebuild is projected to be a two-year rebuild. However as a rule I don’t like owning high-priced RB assets unless they’re in the first year or two of their contracts in a rebuild. Some players I’d be looking to move in a rebuild include:

2021 Free Agent RBs

Kenyan Drake

I suggested selling Drake for any 2021 1st a few weeks ago but Drake may not have much trade value left after possibly losing his job to Chase Edmonds but as an upcoming free agent he could have even less value in 6 months. I’d take any 2021 2nd right now.

Todd Gurley

Gurley isn’t the same player and maybe on a different team next year he is still a top 20 RB this year and may hold some value. If you can tempt a contender to part with a 1st that’s a great bit of business.

James Conner

Conner is an under the radar free agent in 2021. I’m not expecting him to have a hot market. He could take a home town discount and return to the steelers in which case he could have great value. However, if he does go elsewhere I don’t foresee him getting a full workload. I wouldn’t sell conner for less than a top 10 pick but above that and I’m listening.

Top Tier RBs

  • Alvin Kamara
  • Dalvin Cook
  • Ezekiel Elliott
  • Christian McCaffrey
  • Derrick Henry

I may be beginning to sound like a broken record now, but I honestly believe that if you have an elite RB on your roster and are still not in contention then you’ve got to sell them high because they probably won’t be an elite option when you get round to compete.

Don’t sell them cheap, instead try to float them to the whole league in order to create a bidding war. If you are able to get a haul of picks and young players by selling off a stud it will put you in a better position long term.
